My account ran out today, and I'm going to reconcider wether I want to continue to play this game or not.

There is no roleplay, except from Heirs of Nithavellir, Nyd and Madan from Amazons of Midgard (haven't met anyone else form the Amazons so I don't know about the others).

Not only that, but the game's so bloody repeative.
"End reg buff plz"
"r"
"r"
"r"
"r"
"r"
"pulling"

Over and over and over again until you just sit there with your eyes halfopen, resting your head on your left arm and just keep hitting F8, Stick and your styles.

Sure, I meet nice guys, but I got IRC for that.
Is there any reason at all as to why I should continue putting money in this? Money that isn't even mine (*cough*parents*cough*).
I find Baldur's Gate 1 more entertaining than this.

If you could come up with some good views, I'd be happy to read them.

Mythic got it slightly wrong.....

they pimped this game as a realm vs realm game

but it is in fact a PvE game until you get the heights of RvR.
And imho, getting to level 50 takes faaaar to long

I've been wondering why I keep playing too, bored of XP, bored of RvR, basicially bored of the game.

But then I'm in a great guild, with some great people, and we have fun, together. Thats what keeps me playing.... until something better comes along anyway.

Ganking lurikeens with my axe always cheers me up too :)

You're facing the same dilemma I faced 8 months ago, and when it came to it, I quit. I'd had enough of the constant levelling, and of being told not to roleplay by non guildmates...

so I quit...

then two months ago, I met up again with some folks from the guild, including the GL I passed the guild to, and they "forced" me to come back...

well, it was still the same game, but the break I'd taken meant that there was a lot of new content that i hadnt seen, and the guild was still going strong...

Basically if the levelling is killing you, and you're bored of hitting things... take a break... a few weeks, a few months... then come back and see if you missed much.

Some groups can be like that. If XP and levels are the only thing that matters then it's a pretty efficient way of getting them. But it does kind of remove the fun. One thing I've found is that you can often find more fun by getting groups outside the mainstream - skip Malmo and try to get a group in DF or Dodens, for instance.

And remember, it doesn't have to be a full group, either. You'll probably need a Seer because of the down-time, but any combo of Seer + n others will work (in fact it can be more fun with 'unusual' combinations), and small groups can often be a lot more fun than large groups. For one thing it's easier to suggest doing something different in a small group.

I'm a firm believer that you make your own fun in these games. You get out what you put in. If you are fun and frivolous then other people will join you, and you'll have a much more enjoyable time.

I'd also agree with Spug. Don't be afraid to take a break for a while. I did this too (only a month or so) and it helps a lot.

Roleplaying is not just left to the 'Verily my dearest Paladin' or 'By Odins itchy beard' crowd there are many varying degrees of roleplayers out there who can help to make this game a rather fun place to be.Not everyone is consumed by needing to get level 50 as quick as humanly possible, if you'd like to find out a different avenue of playing why not organise some kind of event for people to get together I think you'd be surprised at how many people would come and join in.(If stuck for ideas or not sure how to go about it,I'm sure the lovely people at PARP would be glad to help).

Well... I stopped playing now so I guess its easy to realise what my answer would be. However, taking a break can help sometimes, as can making an alt... but not always.

Trouble is... and here I disagree with some... getting to 50 doesnt take long enough in my opinion... you can do it in a week if you have the time and the stimulants. Then you are at the pinnacle of the game, thats as good as it will get... oh you will get some RAs of course but unless you are lucky then your class specific RAs are a bag o shite and you stand on the zerg treadmill til you are bored shitless. Being a level 50... ie the highest level attainable, should be in my opinion a real achievement... it isnt. It means nothing because there is no end game except for RvR.

One of the main reasons I stopped playing is content, or lack thereof. There just isnt any. Compare the content of EverQuest to DAoC... my Necro in EQ... 354 separate quests available (most with multiple levels) just from the city of Neriak, ok so some are class/race/level specific and NOT all are available to a Dark Elph Necro but most are... multiply this by the number of cities, then add in the Moon of Luclin and the Planes and you get my point I hope. New content is added regularly, we only just had Planes of Power and now Legacy of Ykesha is soon with us. Mobs are a challenge from level 1 right up to 65, with increasingly hard AI and abilities as you go up.

Not just EverQuest either but Asheron's Call 2... stunningly beautiful graphics (you will need a gforce 4) for all the eye candy phreaks and more content than you can shake a stick at, with an engrossing storyline which you are actually an integral part of and a massive world in which you can make a difference not only to the storyline but also to the way the whole world operates, and this from level 2 or 3 onwards. EverQuest has been with us for years so content rightly SHOULD be there but AC2 hasnt, yet AC2 has it at launch with extra content released every single month.

Looking slightly to the future, SWG (April), CoH, Horizons... World of Warcraft (Spring/Summer Beta...Q4 release?), Warhammer Online (2004), ShadowBane (March), Ryzom, Lost Civilisations all of which promise a great deal and all will be with us at some point within the next 12 months and LotR Middle Earth Online at some point after that. The future looks bright for Online RolePlaying games and less so I suggest for DAoC.

As someone said a while ago... "...if Mythic want to keep people interested in this game they will have to do more than make Albion Uber"... I dont necessarily agree totally but I would say they have to look VERY VERY hard at the class/realm balancing issues. Somewhere, somehow (and I suggest right at the begining) they went wrong and have been running round trying to catch their own tails ever since. This approach hasnt worked, it isnt working and has no chance of ever working and until they formulate a strategy which can work this game will be doomed to be forever imbalanced.

Very well said Noita.

I leave both Mid and Hib to create what will possibly be my last character ever in this game. I do it, for the new PvE of SI.

I prefer a game that has indefinate PvE. Where there isn't a level cap, that it just becomes insanely hard to level higher, but it's still possible.

I spent some time today playing a MUD I played years ago. And chuckled at my pocketsized gnome (33lbs) cleric gaining skills and XP for just standing there healing and buffing people.

<sighs> Can't really add much to what Noita said. I'm looking forward to a MMORPG where skill is only limited by the time you put into it... um...like crafting... but even that is capped.

Static
Repeatitive
is this MMOG.

Give me a game where my actions make a difference, one of the cornerstones for roleplaying.

Give me a game where it takes intelligence and tactics to beat mobs not, okay guys zerg legion, Hibernian dragon would be the only thing I found to this but 1 mob don't count.

And give me a game where the roleplayers don't think roleplaying is talking in "kobbie" laungage. Roleplaying is not about what you say, it is about what you do, and in DAoC the second part has been taken away.

I totally agree with Noita and until I read what she said I was ready to say the same things. Getting to level 50 isn't too hard at all, it's too easy. Make levelling much longer but rvr accessible much earlier (some say it is but we all know that being level 50 is pretty much necessary). I want to be level 100, I want some kind of acheivement and being a grand mage or something, not just lvl 50 "woot! now I go rvr".

Surely it wouldn't have been too dificult to add a bunch of new spells but only able to reach them with many hours of pve action, so much so that 'powerlevel & rvr' guilds such as nolby pride wouldn't deem them necessary.

I dunno, I'm on my way out but really need something new to go to. Am thinking of re-installing Planescape:Torment to play in the meantime.

Don't matter if 20 is max level, 50, 65 or 100..
If it was 100, you just had to be level 100 to be RvR'ing.

The powergamers are out there, always will be..

Ulfgar, I've been here a year, and have had and am having lots of fun, even if some of these criticisms are also correct. (Had to feel it was a bit ironic reading the 'no content' claim on the day SI is being released).

One frustration is there are plenty of people in Midgard who do roleplay, who don't just focus solely on game dynamics but we are also spread out across guilds. Roleplayers often miss other roleplayers as being spread out, people often tend to drop out of character, I see it as in Nyd we don't tend to do that [ok sometimes ...] so we see when people start back into character. So there are more of us than most people think but it's not easy to have groups of us.

I've seen at least 3 maybe more other roleplaying guilds start up in Midgard since Nyd was formed, with each of us ending up small and separated. Of course, people have their own dreams and starting a dwarf-only guild is one good basis for roleplaying. Nyd started as an all-race guild, on principle, which doesn't stop us realising the norse are egocentric and only trolls are really noble.

For any of you frustrated like Ulfgar out there, think about ways of us finding each other. Nyd could host some hunts maybe or even be a guild you're looking for.

And well... the levelling treadmill does get you down at times. I got stuck once in my 30s and it wasn't until Uryens taught me a bit about hammers and I started dealing out better damage that I came back to enjoy things. But some people here are arguing to extend the levelling treadmill to infinity! And funnily enough, I'd thought that was what realmpoints were for.
