I decided to give the DAoC Europe website something to do today, in order to get some hard facts... I spidered all the guilds in the 3 realms and counted the number of active characters and accounts. This does not include guildless people, but I don't see why the percentage of guildless people would differ per realm.
So, here it is, as close an approximation to realm population as any non-GOA person can get. Only characters and accounts that were on within the last 2 weeks were counted:
Albion: 5751 characters on 3303 accounts
Hibernia: 3165 characters on 1798 accounts
Midgard: 3466 characters on 2003 accounts
This is about what I expected myself. Midgard and Hibernia being approximately equal, and Albion having around 50% more. Turned out Midgard has a 10% bigger population than Hibernia.
Apologies to GOA for bombarding their server with download requests for over 500 XML files in 30 seconds
