Real ****ing One Player

I never had a problem with RealPlayer.

Since reformatting my HD, I now have to use Real One Player (correct me if I'm wrong but RP is discontinued) to watch Real files.

Fine and dandy but about 3 seconds into watching something the whole PC locks up.

I recently upgraded to a Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro (cheers Jonty ;)), maybe its something to do with that? Can't find bugger all in the "help" section.

Any ideas? Tried using Check For Updates to see if there was any bugfix, installed anything remotely of that type but no luck.

Ta, fingers crossed (/me wants streaming news waaah).

/edit: I'm running Windows XP, got 764Mb DDR Ram with 1700 Athlon XP.

hehe, you must be the only person I know who is prepared to use Real One player ;)

Well, in theory, the problem could be coming from one of several places.
  • Real One Player (perhaps try uninstalling it, then installing a fresh copy with all the components)
  • Graphics card (I hope I haven't given you dodgy advice ;) I'd be surprised, however, if the problem was here, but check you have the latest drivers)
  • Windows XP (again, unlikely, but just check you have all the latest updates)
  • The streaming media (does your computer lock up on just one file or have you tried others and suffered the same problem?)
When exactly did you start to experience the problem? Just after the reformat? After installing the graphics card? Also, does your computer lock up when trying to view other streamed Real content?

Sorry I can't be more specific

Kind Regards

Jonty

P.S. As you rightly say, I believe Real Player is now gone, although I dare say it's still available if you know where to look.

hehe thanks for the reply mate :)

I really don't want to use the player but c'est la vie.

Ok..I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling latest version - no luck. I doubt its the card as you say - its proved to be a damn excellent card and your recommendation was great thanks :).

The pc locks up when I try to view any Real file, streaming, downloaded whatever. I can use Windows Media Player with np whatsoever.

I'm trying to think when the problem started and it didn't start just after the format, in fact I think it did indeed start just after I got the new card :(.

Hope this helps, thanks for your time Jonts!

Hello :)

Well, it seems we've eliminated three of the four causes, so it looks like, for some reason, your system configuration just doesn't like Real One player, or vica versa.

I found this support page which may be of some use to you. Other than that, I can only really suggest reverting back to the old Real Player if you knew that worked correctly. I'll try and find a download link for it if I can.

Kind Regards

As with most companies, Real are plugging their latest greatest software everywhere on their site, but this archives page kindly lists all their old software too (they've now gone up slightly in my estimations ;)).

Hope this helps

Kind Regards

Ta muchly :) Am trying out the stuff on that support page, if that doesn't work I'll have to use the old RP.

And thanks Clowneh btw, if I have to use the old version its np.

Ta again :)
