Hi all!

I have been looking at getting on a cable connection for some time and have finally completed that today.

Then for my next step which was to start playing CS, now I have got CS Looked at many a page on it and get a large hunger for it and done the tutorials and now for the step to start playing for real, or even a training map.

well.....my problem is that I dont know where to start, in the CS menu I click on start and then it shows me a list of servers and no one is playing on them etc so where do I start.

Please help I feel lonley and want to start playing and then join a clan.

Get yourself All Seeing Eye from www.udpsoft.com it says you got to pay but you dont , get it on trial.
You will then have an enourmous list of servers playing cs. Just double click on one and away you go.

Good Starting Place for a noobie, add the IPs to ASE/GameSpy/CS ingame Browser and watch the Cheats in action.. i mean Players in action...

You may find "Scooby Doo" floating around killing Noobs... look out for him

First off, don't be embarrased. We've all been there.

Next, go here and download All Seeing Eye.

Install it and fill in all the little bits it asks for. (don't worry about buying it yet) If you are a BW subscriber then make sure you log on first.


When it's all in click on CS (as long as you have it installed of course) then scroll down to modifyers. Choose the country you are in (U.K.?) Then click the button in the middle of the toolbar with the red and blue arrows. Sit and wait for a few mins whilst it finds everything.

Now click on the 'name' bit of the main panel, to arrange them all in that order.

Now go through list picking out the best GSP's. Get the BW ones of course asuming you subscribe, but also get BlueYonder, Jolt and Demon for instance. Though others here will have other ideas.

As you pick them right click and move into a favourites folder, that way you'll be able to find them again next time.

How do I configure it to get into spectator mode?

You don't need to, if servers allow spectator mode it will be in the menu when you get into the server

I have tried now to get on and all I get are errors!

1) the executable file is out of date
Do i need an update?

2) Could not get IPX socket name, IPX Disabled Reason :WSAENOTSOCK
What the!

3) Server Verification failed!!!

Someone please help its doing me head in!

Heh, first one...

You need to install the CS 1.5 Update, its something like 120mb is i recall. Use this thread to find Links to the CS 1.5 Update.

The IPX is nothing, you can disable that by adding this command to your CS Shortcut Icon ..

Right Mouse Click your CS Shortcut Icon, select Properties and where it says Target copy and paste this in:

C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -console -noipx

-noipx Disabled the IPX so it will also load onto a Server Faster
-console Gives you access to your Console, so you can vote for maps, check how long a map has left to run, change your name etc

If i recall, a few weeks back WON did something so you get that Server Verification Error, you have to placethis file in your "C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\valve" Folder (Overwrite it)

So first update your CS to 1.5, then do the rest

You also need half life version whatever it is now, all available from barrysworld or a million other places.
