Jurrassic Five are decent for 1 album, they peddle the same feel Good Crap over and over though. Which in my mind is just as trite as peddling Gangstaaa wank repeatedly. =Not Decent Artistry, no matter how happy you are. I would infact, go as far as saying that Jurassic Five are Hip Hop for people who don't really like Hip Hop. Which is to say, they are The Coldplay of rap. perhaps, anyway. I could be lying.

New:

Madvillian are fucking amazing. Get Madvilliany (aka MF Doom, check his stuff too and Madlib)

Prefuse 73

Old:

Then we have the first Wu Tang album(36 Chambers)). That's what the english garage artists have been ripping off, lyrically for 10 years.

N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton. Great Stories.

Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back

older stuff that I've yet to investigate fully:
Dr Doom aka Dr Octago/Kool Keith/Ultramagnetic MCs apparently are/is awesome amd fucked up, but not in your typical 'gangsta' way.

Outkast. the result of kool keith, very good in my eyes.

but i dont know much about hip hop.
thats just what i like.

Easing into hiphop from metal id go dl the Necro album, "The Pre-Fix For Death" got some decent songs when they are'nt overgimmicky or using that oh so horrible female singer. Goretex and Gang Starr aint overly worthless either.

Jedi mind tricks, Non-Phixion, Immortal Technique.

More pissed off hiphop, asked a friend and listened thru it and it's cool for it's genre.

Snoop - Doggystyle.

Virtually the same album as Dre's aforementioned Chronic but better because Dre isn't rapping on it :)

Oh and Notorious B.I.G - Ready to Die.

Prefuse 73 is good but there isn't much rapping.

Argh, gotta go to work...

Music vid for We Know Something ftw. :D

Oooooh yeah forgot about that. iirc the one for The Hit Song was pretty well made too. It's all about the answering machine message at the end of the CD tho.

"DJ Format where are you, I know you're working at home
DJ Format where are you sitting on your throne
taking a shit just like the music you produce you know that
can't think of anything else to say.......

There's great stuff out there. I tend to prefer Hip Hop that's quite chilled and musically interesting.

Mos Def - Black On Both Sides is a superb album, especially in terms of lyrics. The New Danger ain't as good.

The Roots - About as intelligent as Hip Hop gets. Phrenology is great, very exciting. Even manages to make rock and rap actually work together. Again though, the last album (The Tipping Point) isn't very good.

A Tribe Called Quest - Old school, chilled stuff. Songs about French guys and losing your wallet. And yes, you can kick it.

Cypress Hill - More gangsta than the others I mentioned, but in a humorous way. I reckon their best album is IV, but the first two are good as well.
