Random reboots.

For some odd reason randomly I get a message saying "power saving enable" then my pc reboots. I am running -

System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.
System Model: A7N8X-X
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
Radeon 9700 pro

(If you need more info ask)

This is so annoying you cant even begin to imagine it...any help would be greatly appreciated. I've already gone to BIOS and also power settings, a friend of mine who is a PC genius cannot find anything wrong either.
Do you think I need new drivers or do I have a dodgy piece of hardware?

You had a similar problem with your monitor and power settings?

Its still the same problem...but I think it may not be the monitor causing it.

I had a similar problem when my cable modem was plugged into my USB slot...

Just an update. I took both sides off my base unit and played SWG for 45 mins and no reboots. I think its something to do with overheating inside..

Hi ~Mobius~

The A7N8X-X motherboard features something called ASUS C.O.P (CPU Overheating Protection). This system will automatically cut the power to your system whenever the temperature rises above a certain threshold. Usually the power is cut immediately, and a little light on the motherboard will switch on. I know this is different to what you describe, but it may be worth consulting the manual about. I doubt it is this, but it's worth checking.

Kind Regards

While we are talking about random wierd stuff, heres one for you :

At my moms place there is a pc that actualy randomly boots. you shut down the pc leave it there and withing 24 hour it will have booted itself.
First i taught it was some wake-on-lan signal comming from the cable modem,
but if you leave the pc with only the power plugged in after a while it will boot.

Anyone got any idees about this one ?

That does actually sound like whats happening to me. I am playing now with both sides of my case off and also a big fan blowing into the side of it and I havnt been rebooted since then.
The manual I have doesnt say how you can stop this C.O.P from occuring though.

Cheers for finding that out, Jonty. Makes sense. ;)
Wonder if its possible to stop it though.

Hi ~Mobius~

On some boards you can configure the failsafes, but I believe this isn't possible with ASUS's C.O.P. system:

ASUS C.O.P
[ASUS's C.O.P. system monitors] the voltage on two pins of an AthlonXP chip. The theory is that if the fan fails, for example, the temperature of the chip will rapidly rise. This rise in temperature, and subsequent increase in resistance, causes the voltage to drop and the mobo determines this as it overheating.
Anyway, having had a quick search it seems that it cannot be switched off or altered (although the BIOS may contain options regarding when, if at all, your computer can automatically reboot). However, there does seem to be the reoccuring suggestion that you check that your heatsink fan (HSF) is seated correctly. Apparently if the HSF is incorrectly fitted, if only a little off, then problems can occur

Like I say, it may not be this at all, but it's probably worth a check, just in case.

Kind Regards

Sounds like the work of a malevolent spirit to me. This problem is clearly beyond any techies expertise and we must look to the supernatural world for answers to your problem.

First you must seek out the oracle, only it can give you the answers you require. Now, go!
