k, after seeing the oh so low prices of ram, i bought a stick of 512mb of the stuff.

Stupid me forgot to check that his mobo supported it first, and after a couple of ppl telling me it wouldn't, I checked the manual and it didnt say it supported 512mb.

My mobo is a Abit be6-2, it has 3 dim slots with a max of 768mb of memory.

I dunno why im asking this, but im asking it on the off chance that it might take it, just not printed in the manual, and will save me having to send it back and purchase 2 x 256 :]

thx :)

I don't know if it is a good idea or not, but I would give it a try and see what happens.

If it melts (which I doubt), then I refer you to the start of this post.;)

I forgot that RIMMs had to be paired the other day when I bought a 256mb stick

Damn - looks like I am going to have to buy another :)

It will very probably only see 256mb of the 512 dimm as it appears each dimm slot on the board is capable of 256 max

I got a BE6-2 but I assumed 512 wouldn't work so I stuck with 256 (I can only use one DIMM slot cos the others are covered by my HSF :)).

Talking of memory. Does it sound normal that two 128mb PC100 sticks of Crucial ram could run at PC133?
I can o/c my system nicely and it runs sweet...nice and cool too. But when I run my benchmark...3dmark2001 it hangs at random points. It's fine when I don't over clock the memory.

I to have just added an extra 512mb of ram to my machine, at first it only recognised the single stick as 64mb. The problem was my motherboard bios was out of date. Once this had been flashed every thing ran fine.

Please note the bios was upgrade by a mate in my IT department as if its done wrong can totally screw up your machine.

Hope this helps :)

My comp specs says the mobo can take 2gb of ram but there are only two slots. Can you actually get a 1gb stick of crucial ddr PC2100 ram? What is thew best type of Ram? Corsair DDR PC2400 CAS-2

Yeah, I flashed my bios myself. I was fine, but if I had known that a power cut would have killed my machine permenantly, I wouldn't have bothered...

It's not actually difficult, just risky if it goes wrong.
