I heard so much negative about this when it first came out that I totally ignored it. That and the fact that it was multi-platform put me off.

It's rather good tbfh. Picked it up cheap on Steam.

It's pretty. The physics are good. It's an enjoyable blast. The weapons are satisfying in the main. The NME are very good - their movement is fantastic, nicely animated and characterful. Vehicle combat is a nice distraction. NPC's are interesting. Setting is good.

I heard a load of stuff about texture tearing and big performance issues. They've obviously patched it well. I'm running it on max everything and whilst I do get the weird texture streaming bug (it sometimes takes, say, half a second to fully apply all the different layers to the textures - and can be quite distracting) it's not a killer - even on a 42" telly. Frame rates are stable (which is the most important thing).

The bad? Interface is annoyingly consoley (the multi-platform thing rearing it's ugly head). Story isn't amazing - but then id games were never that hot on story. But it's not shit either.

Good solid blaster and worth it - especially as it's cheap.

Anyone else play it on PC?

Just started playing it a few days ago.

Seems like Borderlands with all the fun bits removed.

It's fun for about 2 hours, after that you just want to complete the game as fast as possible because it becomes very boring.

Think it was about £10 on the 360 in like a month or two it was traded in very quickly forcing the price down.

Funnily enough I'd say it was the fun bits from Borderlands without the shite inbetween ;)
I quite liked it but it does get a little monotonous.

Picked it up in the sale, your lucky having your textures pop in in half a second. Whenever a new area loads, I take my hands off the keyboard for 30secs just so it loads the textures and gets to a playable state. Doesn't matter what settings I set the game to, its the same time. Massive lag and no textures. I like the AI in the game, the raiders seem to fall back and regroup if I kill too many of them. I'll play it to finish it, but hasn't impressed me much, not sure why there was all the hype surrounding its release.

I played it when it first came out, I was fairly psyched for a new ID game.

I didn't have any of the texture or performance issues people had issues with.

Buuuut, as Aada says, it was good initially, but became old quite fast - what you see is what you get beyond the first couple of hours - and the storyline is very disappointing.

It basically feels like they built a nice engine and started making a nice game to go with it, then just suddenly decided "That'll do" and left pretty much every aspect of it unfinished.

My detailed rant about it a while back, main storyline ending spoiler is spoilered, but the rest is about the gameplay. Nevertheless, I'd finish the game and decide how you feel about it first :)

Really? I heard that Borderlands wouldn't have gone anywhere without the graphical change as the game itself wasn't up to much?

The other bad thing about Rage is the level-repetition thing. Do everything twice - and not even spaced out very much. Other than that - it's an enjoyable blast. Looting is at a minimum, shooting is at the forefront - and with the good movement and interesting mobs it's throwaway fun.

Unlucky about the texture streaming PLightstar

I'd definitely give it that - I liked that looting was kept to a minimum in Rage - you just got on with the action and finding the few cool things there are. That's the issue really - once you've found the cool things, that's it. But you're right, it is fun while it lasts.

Were it not for its graphics, I can definitely sympathise with the arguments against Borderlands - it's still great fun, but most of all when you're playing with others to make it more interesting.

To me the biggest hurdle to play it is the setting. Everything just seem Fallout lite.

I don't think it seems Fallout-lite. It's like fallout without the clunky shitness and all the boring waiting taken out - and great physics and combat mechanics put in.

Story isn't as good as Fallout's I'll admit tho - but it's still more fun to play.

Yeah no doubt, pure fps wise it seems better, but as a more of a RPG player it would take a bit of adjustment to play ;)

In that sense to me it's fallout lite as the setting is so similar.

After giving it another go, after the latest Nvidia Beta Patch, got rid of the texture lag issues. I am changing my mind and am actually enjoying it. Just got to the subway town and loving the fact, you have to think up ways of killing different enemies, instead of pick up shotgun and assault rifle and not bother with any other weapons. The graphics of the NPC's and general landscape look great but the inside textures are appalling. I am going to see if theres a HD pack for PC. Most things look blurry when you get close to them. Mechanics work well and I am even starting to like the driving, but wish there was a fast travel option.
