Well I'm back on my first non local leave from the air force after 2 and a half weeks training, and I must say that my experience says a lot about governement funding. Not enough hot water for the whole barrack block, one washing machine for us all (42 people), a laundrette that doesn't work and holes in the parade ground. Other than that's it's all good fun and I passed my NBC training yesterday. Heading back tomorrow so speak to you all next week maybe.

That's not government funding mate. That's them telling you it isn't a holiday camp.

Anyway arn't you becoming a truck driver anyway?

Not exactly, once basic training is done he'll be learning to drive pretty much anything that has wheels + a few things that don't.
Saw him out tonight but the bloody lightweight disappeared at 11.30. All the more :drink: for me then :)

back home again, passed first aid this week. Rifles next week  surely 5 hours sleep a night is not healthy.

And the points I mentioned about our barrack block, well we're the only flight suffering from these things. This week our washing machine broke and flooded the downstairs section, guess who had to clear it up.

me again. spent a few days in the field shooting at people with blank rounds, standing to and searching fields. It snowed and it was fucking cold! I now know that the SA80 is a bag of shit, and that my sharp shooting skills are crap. I graduate on tuesday but the bad news is I may be on guard duty during the easter holiday.

So whats been happening around here while I was gone?

Fraid it all hasn't gone to plan :(

Had OASC on the 21st of last month. Passed all the aptitude tests that I needed (including the ones for Pilot), passed the medical, all was going well up until the interview. Personally I thought it went fine - but apparently I wasn't 'funny' enough. Which I thought was an odd reason to bin me. I have been told to reapply in a years time tho.

At the debrief I had with the local AFCO, he basically said that the branches I put down they didnt need, either because they had had enough applicants or because they just weren't looking for recruits.

They offered me NCO Weapons Systems Operator (Electronic Warfare/Acoustics), with the prospect of Officer in a year - which obviously proves that I'm 'officer material', but in a branch they need :( This would make me an officer roughly the same time I would have reapplied anyways, but it wasn't the branch I wanted.

All in all tho, OASC was a very good learning experience, and jesus those aptitude tests - 6 hours of em :|

Will I apply in a years time? I havent a clue. My other option is to move to New Zealand with the parents and start practising Law over there. What ya reckon?

badluck mate. Im a graduated airman who should be promoted in 8 weeks time. If I were you I'd apply for air crew, air load master seems to be a popular trade at the moment, they're the guys who sit on the back of chinooks or hercs and guide troops and cargo on and off then man the guns. It's supposedly a good job to have and a very good stepping stone for commission, 9 weeks at Halton then I think 6 months at cranwell then promotion to sergeant straight off, plus you get your albatross. If you have the qualities it's the best way in as ALMs often do better than officers.

Remember officers always have good right arms from returning salutes and from being wankers.
