RADSL Pings.

Anyone had RADSL installed and using it for Q3, if so are the pings crap as other people have suggested?

As it's only ever going to be as good as, or worse than, yer standard ADSL, I'd guess it depends on your provider.

BTOpenworld's product can be pretty naff* for gaming, but I've heard some good reports about other ISPs.

* depending on the network load/time of day/aspect of the moon, I get between 25 and 125 ping with BTO. With the 125 ping comes quite severe packetloss. When I get a 'good' connection, it's pretty stable.

Check out http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ if you haven't already.

BTO is fairly stable for me. At peak times I may get a little PL but my ping never gets above 70 or so.

Mind u I'm probably the only ADSL user in Yorkshire :D

Emb, put a [ code] before, and a [/ code] after your paste (without space). Makes it all nice and readable ;)

Well I've been having a run around the Jolt servers today, and my pings were in the 25-35 range, even in full-on bun-fights.

The Barrysworld servers were a different story. Pings were 50-90 with pretty bad packet loss. I even got phone-jacked a couple of times, but that seemed to be when I was near a particular player.

The BW servers don't seem to be up to their past standards (or is it my route to them?).

RADSL pings should be no different to ADSL pings. Latency has NOTHING to do with download speed, and hence if your connection speed scaled itself down to 300kbit instead of 512....you would still have the same pings

I have to agree. BW servers have been terrible lately (lately meaning about 2 months). I hit 20ms pings on jolt, and I used to hit mid 20 to 30ms on BW. Now I get pings in the high 80s, and on a bad day it's up to 120.

What I have ascertained is that it is not due to BW pipe. Go join an empty BW CS server...I still get class pings if it's empty. Stick a few people on it and it starts choking. Soloution? Upgade your kit BW. I understand the situation must be tight with the recent aquisition, but your standards really have dropped

Played Q3 for about 2 hours today. Jolt was as smooth as silk. Barrysworld was laggier than I've ever known it. Not just me, but almost everybody on the server.

So it's farewell to BW's substandard servers, and hello to Jolt.
