Radeon GFX glitch

Help me!!

I have an ATi Radeon 8500 and run XP but i have a rather anoying problem.

As u can see there is a problem with resolution, with the little bands at the top and bottom.

(Also the models are a little warped)

Pressing Esc and comin back to the game screws it up completely. I end up with the screen staying in the menu resolution (800x600 i think) with the game resolution going back to 1280x960. The result being i can only see 1/4 of the screen! (as u can see below)

Any help appreciated. Unless its to get another gfx card hehe

Is the writing in CS kinda blotchy as well?You know when you type summat in-game, and the score board names?I have a Radeon 8500 and i run XP and the blotchy text was the only problem ive ever had with it as regards visuals, i turned anti-aliasing off to sort my problem out.I run CS in 800x600 and my desktop is the same resolution.

The writing in CS looks fine. Having the res the same as CS gets rid of the little borders, but CS cant do 1280x1024 so id have to change mydesktop res and i dont wanna do that.

I could change the res about but thats just skirting round the problem not fixing it, and i still wounldnt b able to press Esc and come back into game (which u need to do to remove the glitch of the menu remaining in the top left when u host a server). Im hoping there is a tweak or setting that can fix this.

What about playing in fullscreen mode, as opposed to windowed mode

Im sorry then matey i have no idea, one thing is for sure though, when you do sort the card out you will be chuffed with it, i am now, although at about this time yesterday i was ready to chuck it at the wall(i installed the XP drivers), i just pissed about with the settings(turn them all off and keep adding 1 or 2 then trying again), post it on here if you ever sort it out, it would be interesting and useful as it will probably happen to me someday. Is XP the only OS you've used with the card?

Yeah it is fullscreen mode. I put the command in the HL shortcut to make sure. No luck.

Shame cos like u say its a damn fast card. Its only givin me probs in HL.

XP is the only OS ive used, and since its only HL that havin trouble im not inclined to change :uhoh:

Yeah i had the problem with XP yet it run great in Millenium, i think the problem is an XP compatibility problem and not the card.

Thats prolly why XP is so cheap, half the drivers seem to be missing

It is full screen you daft git. If it was windowed it would have the bar containing 'Half Life' at the top. I also got it ages ago but I changed the resolution and it worked.
