Radeon 9000 in latptop help

Hello all,

I am not very computer literate so was hopeing some one on here who is could help me.

I use a laptop to play games (which are crap compared to pc's! imo) and i have a ati 9000 gfx card running with 512ddr memory and 2.4 p4 processor.

Atm i think my card is seriously lacking in performance and it is even struggeling in Q3!!!

Does any one know where i could get a updated driver cos i have looked everywhere and cant find one on the net. I am curently running driver version 6.13.10.6178...dated 29/08/2002!!!!

Also i was wondering what i should set the smoothvsion to (i have it turned of at the mo) and all other settings, there are loads of things u can change but can some ppl tell me which are the best tweeks i can do are.

Thanks for any help/advice giving!

Hi ICE

According to ATi's website, drivers for your graphics card are available only through your notebook manufacturer's website. If you post the name of your manufacturer, then I'll happily have a search on your behalf.

In terms of the options, you may want to keep Smoothvision off for now. Basically this option improves the image quality by employing something called anti-aliasing. All this really means is that it helps to remove the jagged edges in 3D applications, so games look more realistic and, well, pretty :) Unfortunately this does require quite a lot of procesing power, so it can slow things down.

As for the other settings, I'm afraid I can't really help since I don't own an ATi graphics card (and, unfortunately, ATi's drivers aren't very intuitive in terms of their appearance, so don't worry if you find all the options a little daunting). My advice would be to keep everything on a default or low setting, searching Google or your favourite search engine whenever you come across a techincal term you don't quite understand.

As well as tweaking the drivers, you should also check the settings inside the game. In Quake III Arena, in the video options menu, there are preset quality configurations (Low, Medium, High etc). Try setting the game's quality settings to low or medium and check the performance then. If you're happy, you can always tinker with the settings afterwards.

Sorry I cannot be of any more assistance.
