RACING GAMES - Who Plays Them?

Somebody must play them? It's sad that their does not seem to be an on-line community for the genre and I'm sure people would enjoy leagues involving racing games. Post your thoughts below:

Well you know my opinion on this one dave :) if those developers would stop releasing sucky 8 player games and started providing dedicated servers that anyone could run with >16 player limits there would be a community.

yeah, I think thats a case for me to look further into over the Summer as I have not got much else to do and its dedicated servers that we need.

On the GP3 front its out this month and I will be the first to bag a copy of Grammonds next slice of programmming excellence. Wet weather conditions with changable weather conditions through a race. I can hardly contain my excitment for it.

Roll on those Rally Masters severs, That's one thing i am looking forward to. :)

Not true, by a LONG way.

btw, that nobber was on Minos yesterday Krytes. He was asking Skydancer (I believe) something. Sky completely ignored him, so he changed his name to (surprise) CS^SkyDancer. How ingenious. Whether you're now free of his frankly disturbing (and leaning on homosexual) obsession or not I dunno.

Does anyone use the BW Motorhead servers?

I've been pondering about d/loading that patch so you can connect over the internet, 13megs worth.
Its just that there is not much point, if I'll be whizzing about & crashing on me own :D

Otherwise, what other "driving type" servers are ther out there - other than WP ones?

Grand Prix Legends supports up to 20 players in a race and -- allowing for the usual net borrox -- can be remarkably stable, depending mainly on the server. Close racing's possible with pings below 300 and... well, you get the idea.

I guess GPL hardly counts as a game for a quick laugh on a Saturday night when you're half cut though. It's seriously hard work, but like most difficult stuff, the reward's proportional to the effort involved. It's the most excitement I've had online since the Quake1 CTF scene was at its zenith.
www.vroc.net is a good place to start if anyone's interested. WinVROC is the GameSpy of the GPL world, with up to 25 (hardly Q3 I know :) servers running at peak Euro/USA connect times, and a steady stream of people in the chatroom throughout the day.

So racing is alive and well online, it's just that few games/sims can match the vast hordes drawn to HL, Q1/2/3, or UT.

GP3'll be no good online as Geoff Crammond's allergic to net play. TCP/IP support is lan-only according to latest reports.

Andrew : Half true, internet play will be very possible with some common sense on the users behalf, and since modem's are now a minority for online gamer's connections, getting a decent game of GP3 in over an ISDN/Cable connection should be easy and something i look forward too.
However, geoff crammond is sticking to what he does best. You say he is allergic to netcode : wrong, he doesnt touch graphics, he doesnt even think about sound, he is the physics and AI guru : meaning the team decide on how it looks and sounds, he just continues on making the game the most realistic physics and AI wise (if you so choose) since, well, gp2. GPL is a good game granted, for those who like a little less restricted gruff under the bonnet, but fuck it, this is the new millennium, F1 racing has never been bigger, and gp3 WILL carry on gp2's eternal flame as the best all round racing game to hit this planet.

Stu : cheers, yes he is still "obsessed" much to my amusement.
A little exaduration (sp?) i admit, shouldve said the *most common* connection for the more serious gamers (depending on what you class serious, im lpb and i aint). Hard to judge really, something i wouldnt mind finding out.

Grimes : I used to be a regular, and iirc im the only one that was ever able to outrace the Serpent with the first car on the last track :) :D

yeah its worth it, server stil 194.88.93.11:16100
used to love it, that was my primary game back when i started on modem.

I've got the patch but I'm still unable to "connect" to the BW Motorhead servers.
I get the error message "no Session found" even though the servers come up in the browser list & ping ok

Any ideas??? web pages that still exist that may have help stuff on them?
I've searched around a bit (not much to do in werk @ this time in the morning :D) already but most links are dead now.

gp 3 is doomed
i like playing game
i enjoy /ed playing good sim games car\bike\flight-air attack is good
but
i hate interacting with computer controlled bots, it just no fun.
so unless somebody is working on a gp 3
workable net interface right now it's doomed , i will buy gp 3, and will play it for about 2 weeks, just like all my playstation games.
and gp3 will be filed under, put this one
on to show somebody how good the graphics are on a computer , this getting the response, it just like watching the television, only better.
:)

Venturer : lol mate, you havent played geoff crammonds new computer controlled bots :)

I played against a couple of barely finished ones and they frightened the fuck outta me

you may change your mind about AI alltogether :)

IT'S ALL IN THE MIND
knowing that somebody is there..
like hiding with flag in ctf, it's no fun hiding from a computer.
cars game let you win or beat you.
ppl do the same sometimes,i know, like letting you get to the RL in qw, when you are getting kick up and down, they could just camp, but would it be fun, that's all part of the game,..
ppl are the game, not the computer is the game.
lol :)
the last line might mean something but
it could also mean fuck all

If you seek a server for a game of GPL then try 194.247.33.248

I've been on there most of the weekend and it's great
