So, we're a bit caned here in Casa del Scouse and we're watching futurama.

Anyway. What I want to know is: given a heat source would popcorn pop in space?

No, because space is generally a vacuum, and no pop would be heard.

There would be no sound, but would the popcorn actually develop? I am perplexed. I shall speak with NASA.

The water would partially boil away and then the remaining water would freeze (the majority of it probably due to the hard shell) inside. You would then have to supply a large amount of heat which would partially melt some of the water which would boil away slowly - basicly you'd end up with a bone dry kernel that had probably suffered the effects of going mushy and being frozen a few times. I doubt itd turn into popcorn at all.

I reckon that it'd be mildly explosive. The air trapped inside the kernel would be packed at 1 atmosphere which would make it explode when put in a complete vaccum.

If you had enough of the shit :)

If you made the popcorn in the microwave on your spaceship then of course it'd pop. Duh!! ;)

Failing that, shoot it into the Sun.
