if mary is 5 and jill is 6 years older than mary but brian is 2 years younger than mary yet 1/2 the age of jill, yet john is 8.
but james is older than john but no 3 times the age of mary.
how old is james?

He must either be or be between 9 and 14 unless i'm really far out on this one.....

Btw, how can brian both be 2 years younger than Mary(5 years) and still be half the age of Jill(11 years)? Would make him both 3 and 5½...

I was trying to work out if it was in some way a semantic issue with the term x years older.

In terms of actual age one year actually can amount to 2 years actual period when working these things out.

Basically it's nonsense!

What a pointless and jumbled up question. My cat could probably phrase your math problem better than that.

You fucked up somewhere along ze line.

Mary = 5
Jill = 11
Brian = 2 years younger than mary, which would mean he was 3 - however, half the age of Jill would be 5 and a half... so... doesn't make sense.
John = 8

So James would be between 9 and 14 as Aybabtu said.

I wrote quite a lot there considering I just repeated what everyone else has already mentioned. :D

Yes. Yes you did. In fact, one might say your post was as pointless as [no]whatsisface's. :p

I was, like, a scrounging ... oh nm! :p

Shame on all of you people who had to try and work it out! A simple read through could tell you that the ages don't match up!! </smug arrogance> :p

I didn't need to figure it out, I just assumed some of you less intelligent folk needed it to be explained. (I mean you, Adari!) xDD
