If you want a really good Evade chain yes...
My 'Shade is going full CS/envenom (envenom to 41, rest in items)for the simple fact that the CS styles are good for tanking (99% quality staff rocks for PA followed by the piercers) with a high Dex, using the Hamstring style with Garrote as a backup.

I dont know why 39 exactly though Matt ???
every point past 21 <PA style obtained> gives +9 of damage cap <to PA hit ,i think> so if you think about it, its really upto you what to spend the points on. Some try max that CS and go 50, some try to balance it out a bit. Im opting for 38 CS meself, the rest of the specs are mah secret

Well the reason being 39 is to fit into my template and it gives a cs attack at that lv.Also i agree hamstring is useful for back up when you have to tank against a mob or player.

For a 5-spec SB: NO
CS 34 is all you need.
34 CS style is Creeping Death which stuns the target after a PA and that's all you need from the CS line. After that you use your Left Axe styles.
Don't worry about your PA cap. Ofc it won't be as high as a Critblade or someone else training it higher, but you can get a decent PA with items and RRs.
Can't really say about infils and NSs since I don't play one or have studied their spec templates, but for a 5-spec the answer is stop at 34 CS. And raise LA to 39 and... you know the rest

34 CS for CD or 44 for a critblade, inbetweens kinda useless as after these 2 u mostly use Evade chains or a garrotte/AH.

Can you envenom ordinary crafted staffs? If so whot about maxin CS, and envenom, then stealth? Since staff is a dex base weapon you should be able to wield it good as a backstabber.

You can do well with a sword/LA 5-spec, but axes are the most natural choice imo.
The reason for this is that you may miss some LA/axe bonuses on some weapons, but really it isn't such a big deal.
The main issue however, is that you'll be using PC weapons at lvl 50 and the best PC sword atm is an Arcanium Bastard Sword 16.2 dps and 4.1 spd. The "problem" here is that it's 16.2 dps. What you really want, after reaching RR 5, is a 16.5 dps weapon since at RR 5 you "technically" are lvl 51 and therefor your cap will be 16.5 dps instead of 16.2 dps as it was at lvl 50 and pre RR 5.
So then you look for a sword with 16.5 dps, and you'll only find this: Arcanium Dwarven Short Sword 16.5 dps and 3.0 spd. The problem here is that you'll not be able to use LA to it's maximum since the style damage is based on the main hand weapon speed.
Main hand spd + off hand spd = actual swing time, so the best for a LA user is to get the slowest main hand weapon and the fastest off hand weapon possible to benefit from it most.
If we look at axes, we find that the PC Arcanium Cleaver is 16.5 dps and 4.0 spd, meaning that at lvl 50 and RR 5 this axe will be the best you can get.
Anyway, swords are fine and it's a mostly a matter of your personal preferance. And you can always respec to axe if you want to. Seeing that you're lvl 20ish you'll have atleast 2 respecs left, so you will not destroy your autotraining either if you plan to do that / doing it already. That said respec isn't until next patch (1.52).

Some assasins on the US servers have used a staff instead of an ordinary weapon. Not specced like that, but tried it with a high CS skill. What they wanted was a 2h weapon (infils and NSs) and crush damage type.
The problem however is that your damage variance is insane and you'll never end up reaching your cap. CS skill is for maxing damage cap and weapon skill is for decreasing your damage variance.

A very popular 5-spec template and what I've gone for is:
34 CS
39 LA
39 Sword / Axe
35 Stealth
30 Env
That's with no autotraining. I autotrained stealth to lvl 44 so I got 65 extra points which I added to Env. So I have 32 env base.
Remember that this is before Spellcrafting, so with spellcrafting you could lower your weapon spec a little (to 35) and raise envenom some more to get to about 35 but you'll have to do some autotraining to be able to do that.
However... I would go for a template that you don't have to depend on spellcrafting to be effective. So a weapon skill of 35 is kinda low.. Spellcrafting will cost a lot of money and you also have to remember that it will take some time for anyone to reach a decent skill in it. And it's still some time away for us on Euro servers.
With the 5-spec I listed above you can get to 50 in most of the skills or close to 50 with items and RRs. It's better to play with a good template now and then later /respec to a better suited template when you have loads of RRs (hopefully) and build your template around what you know you have.
CS 34 --- You get what you need: CD stun after PA. Don't worry about your PA cap. It will go up with items and RRs.
LA 39 --- If you intend to use LA don't go below 39 since LA works in a totally different way then Dual Wield does. LA cuts your damage in half and your damage increases the more you train in it, so if you don't train enough in it, you'll do crap damage. And the Frosty Gaze stun style after a Comeback is a must.
Weapon 39 --- Decreases your damage variance. Need a high skill in it.
Stealth 35 --- No point in going higher than this. Easy to get items and with RRs you'll get to 50 soon enough. At 50 with no RRs but only +11 from items, your stealth will be 46. No big deal. Yes, you'll be spotted by other assasins and if you're not careful enough by other lvl 50s, but it's not a big problem. You'll get RR 2 fast and after that it can only get better. Some templates go even lower than 35, BUT imo that would only be wise if you /respec and already have some RRs.
Envenom 30 --- atm you can only get +9 from items in Midgard. Maybe you can get some lower lvl items, but then you'd have to sacrifice some other nice stats/bonuses. Poisons becomes more and more important with new resists and Alchemy adds some nice little options
This is what you may want to raise at a later point, but it's ok atm. You'll never get lifebane, but you'll get some nice poisons to play with.Hope it helps

I recommen being pure Critblade in bg1 as you have specced as one until lvl 20 and won't get laxe high enough to shine in bg1. Critblade until lvl 24 then start dumping points either there, or after lvl 35.
btw I was going for 36 stealth

But just wanted to add if ur gonna 5-spec sword is a verry good choise IMO..... look at the (endgame wep) 1h sword drop from legion.......

Yes you can poison a staff. Only problem is damage variance, although it's a dex based weapon, infil's can't train crush, so basically you could find yourself hitting very low amounts indeed.
On the subject of damage variance... That's the reason infils should try to train CS to 44 really. Better than 39 for that extra 45 points of damage. (5 * 9 = 45). This still gives you enough points to take thrust to 50, envenom to 39 and stealth to 37.
Frankly that's too much envenom. I have 52 envenom next RR (I'm about 70k away from RR5) so soon as respec comes I'll probably drop envenom to 37 and either up stealth (so I can lose some of these sucky +stealth items) or increase DW (not sure how advisable that is, but it may help a little in melee).

I have had some problems in real life concerning my gaming so I quit.
You were worth some 1k+ Alla lvl 50 mages was worth a little above 1k RP when I killed them. Think you are worth less to a lvl 50.
