Excellent site for Cabalists is www.cabalist.org

In summary:

Amber - has a self con buff so has more hit points than the others. Also procs a stun, although this doesn't have a visual effect so I am not sure how frequent it is. It seems to fire quite regularly in PvE but I'm not so sure in RvR.

Ruby - have heard that it hits more rapidly but not sure about this either. Procs a fire DD.

Sapphire - procs a life-tap that heals itself.

Emerald - procs both a poison DoT (freaked the hell out of me the first time I saw it in a dungeon - thought the roof was falling in) and a disease that acts as a snare.

Jade - damage shield buff

Juggernaut (RA) - has anyone used this?

Once upon a time the rate of proccing was dubious, but all of them seem to fire quite regularly now - the life-tap is crazy (if your Sapphire pet is low on health get it to fight a green by itself and in most cases is well healed).

In PvE I use only the amber and sapphire. I use the amber when I can use the pet to pull and the sapphire when I have to pull and rely on the pet to gain agro from me (sapphire's good for this cos it does more damage).

In RvR the pet is of limited use - I use only the amber and emerald. As well as being a mana store, though, it excels at hunting assassins who are fleeing, or going after archers. Both of these types are often away from the main group so your pet is less likely to be stunned etc. and despatched. Once a pet has locked onto a stealther it won't be shaken off by the rogue re-stealthing and the stun/snare procs help to slow them down. It's funny to see a stealther who has obviously read the 'Stealthers Guide to Evade Enemies' re-stealth and turn and run back through their pursuers only to be whacked by the pet.

In PvE as soon as the sapphire pet is available stick with it - it is much less bugged than the amber pet, and is a decent tank. You will want to think twice about going into dungeons with the amber pet because it will warp through walls and get large amounts of mobs onto you in no time.

In RvR the amber pet is very handy. Lots of hit points and the stun proc can be really useful. Not that you have to worry about that for a few levels yet :)

Juggernaut has no special abilities like the other, but it is same level as caster, and insta cast time

Actually, most of the pet bug have been cleared (remembers the time certain pets wouldn't return after battle)

As a body cabalist, I need my pet to keep aggro in PvE, not to slow my target down, so I use normally use sapphire. When I am fighting larger mobs, however, in groups, I will either use ruby (it has a high DD proc but low hp) since it is not likely to get aggro or amber, depending on the size of the target.

In RvR i need to slow them down so I can either run or cast an extra spell, so here I use amber or Emerald.

Juggernaut has no procs, as Liste said, but it is insta, fast and higher lvl. It is confusing for the enemy and makes it more difficult for them to target your friends. It is free of charge as well, which means that you can use it for mana in time of an emergency.

I guess Jade could be pretty good for pulling at tanglers, but I can't believe it is better than aoe snare..

I tend to use the emerald in Thid alot more than the amber.. whilst maybe it proccs less than the ambers, the disease/Poison DOT's are great when they hit, it really pi$$es off tanks :)

Also like mentioned above they're great to track down stealthers... its very funny to have targetted (although out of range) the stealther and watch as 'Bob' charges them down.. then grin in satisfaction as the health bar on the NS drops and drops and drops coz they cant run.. YAHHH! BOB POWA!

I dunno if it really does help but i try to stand inside emerald Bob (in RvR), makes for mouse selection a little more difficult (put him 'stay mode' and then move inside)

Umm also dont ever use Aggressive mode with them.. totally pointless, just stands there looking hard o_O

hmm

Amber : hits for about 60-160, and seems to proc the stun pretty well this patch. Got the numbers from sever the tether

Ruby: This is like putting Dame Edna Everage in a boxing ring with Mike Tyson :/

Sapphire : Great allrounder. THE pet to use in PvE up until you get 50matter & decide to 3man epics, where amber comes back into play. Lifedrain DD proc, only got STT'd once on sappy, hit for 100ish, with 120+ DD

Emerald : pretty handy in pvp as it procs a dot/poison that interrupts, and interrupt it does (mutters about bloody hibby RA's)

Jade : about as useful as the namesake from Big Brother, and as ugly too. Absolutely useless. A level 50 whacking jade receives about 6dam from Jade's damage shield.

Juggy is OK if you are spirit based IMO, if you have decent body, you are better off putting points into MoC
