Is there much damage difference beween +12 Mana and +15 Mana ?

Btw im an Mana(50M/20L spec) Eldritch .

The reason I ask is, im currenly maxed on my +Mana, but my resists suffer quite a lot.
And im just wondering how much difference it would make to drop my +Mana items down to +12 from +15 to gain some extra resists.

I only intrested from an RVR point of view of course.

afaik +spec over 50 makes little difference for casters.

i asked the same question xanth, turns out that you get nothing from +spec as a caster when your spec is at or above the level of what your attacking.

ie, i lvl 50 with no +mana will hit as hard on a lvl 50 mob/player as another lvl 50 with +15 mana. since in both cases the target is lvl 50 and the mana spec is lvl 50(+)

however, a lvl 50 with +10 mana attacking a lvl 60 mob/player(yes i know) will hit harder and with less variance than a lvl 50 doing the same with no +mana, because in one case the mana spec is eaqual to the target's level, yet in the other it's ten lvl's lower than the target's level.

ie, for rvr purposes purely, use +mana until you reach lvl 50 for attacking higher level players as it'll sort your damage variance and increase overall damage, yet when you reach lvl 50 (as you have) then you should swap the +mana items for something which actually has a use, ie +hits/con/resists/stats etc...

why +skill for a mage doesnt effect your damage/damage cap as overspeccing bow does for archers or overspeccing weapon does for tanks i dont know, but it doesnt, so use a seperate set of +mana items for farming purp mobs in groups, then have anothere set of rvr one's with no +mana, this is taking it that you have 50 mana with spec and/or RR etc... since there would be no reason for a mana eld to go less than 50 with points that'd give you 54, so you waste the +4 from RR anyway, but that's life i guess :(

basically if your non item buffed mana is 50 or more, get some other items and have some actual rvr benefits, just keep the items for increasing damage, decreasing variance in pve against higher lvl mobs for powerlvling/cashfarming etc....

Thx for that Char, bloody good explanation :)

I've spent the last 3 hours trying to work out a better setup, based around items I dont yet have, lol.

Still not there but almost :)

(I guess this also explains why the lvl 50 DF Prince staffs dont have +Spec on them)

very interesting fingoniel, sadly though it didnt mention if the mob was lower than lvl 50 or higher :(, would have sorted the issue out 100% if it had done.

definately, if the mob was higher or eaqual to level 56 then the test gave the results you'd expect, but if it was a lvl 49 or lower one then that'd make it VERY interesting.

he says "Yellow farmer" so thats <=50 :)

I think the confusion is it won't affect your cap - so you won't see any more on greys...

good point :).

the damage difference seems small enough to not have to be bothered so long as your spec is eaqual to your target anyway though :)

nice to see there's SOME damage increase though!
