Ive bought it simply because Q2 got my playing online games, its the only one I stuck with for a long time, other than cs of course which easily holds the record for time spent .
Q4 ,as we all know I expect, is the continuation of Q2, and thus I thought it would be rude not to really

Wasn't a fan of Q3 either though
In fact the only online stuff I play now is BF3, I've even stopped playing CS after god knows how many years. I do like good plot driven SP games though, HL2 was the nads and I'll probably buy FEAR at the weekend.

Hmm, played it a bit this morning, a few SP levels, and I can't say I'm feeling the love so far. Lots of dark corridors and flashlights. But its not Doom III, and I'd be a fool and a communist for saying so. Oh yes.

It looks like it was made a year before Half Life 2. The single player may be good, not sure, I dont play sp much anyway, but it looks very very old fashioned , even in the menus, though I guess that at least is intentional. Go into room ,kill eveything, go into next room. I have to emphasize though, this may change, Ive not played much of it.
The Multi-player.
Oh dear. Again, it just seems so old fashioned. Spawn, hold down fire button, run about, die. (Thats DM by the way, not tried CTF yet.)
I feel disappointed

Oh I dunno. I think we've had this conversation before , I recall I never liked the tdm and DM versions of CoD, whereas you did.
I mean, BF2 aint the best game in the world, but at least its got something new about it, at least it looks a bit nice. To me Q4 aint any of those things.
Im actually considering trying to get me money back.
I feel sad about it, bizzarely :/

cheers Throd too bad you're not too chuffed by the game mate, I was hoping for a slightly more positive review seeing as I ordered it this afternoon heheh. fingers crossed it's got a decent(ish) SP mode, as I'm looking forward to bashing nasty aliens. is everything still shades of reddish brown?

I also got FEAR and COD2, so if Q4 isn't to my liking it's outta there faster than a very fast thing. wondering when it's all going to arrive atm, as COD2 is due on the 28th iirc.

Well I've played MP tonight and I'm no happier. It's just dull. I will agree the netcode is excellent (after 4 months of BF2 shenanigans that wouldn't be much of a stretch anyway), but I'm trying to work out what it was I liked about games like Q3 and UT that I'm not getting from this; it looks nicer, and the gameplay is exactly the same, so all I can conclude is that it's me, and railguns and bouncing around all over the place no longer interests me. Guess I'm getting old.

This is what Im saying. Its just so old, and dont even look good. I expect true diehard Q3's wil like it, because really it is exactly the same as Q3, with a slightly lower head hieght.
Having said that, last night I got a few console commands off upsetchaps (headbobup etc) which improved the playing a bit.

Try CTF, DM has always been and will always be a mess. CTF is rather good.

Same with any quake though, give the modders a few weeks and some of the old favourites should be revisited.
