Bring up the console when you are at the main menu.
Do this by pressing the key to the left of 1 " ` "
This brings up the console : Type the following
/timedemo 1
then
/demo demo001
This should start running a demo faster then normal speed. After the demo it will go back to the main menu. Bring the console up again, and then it will tell you the FPS figure there. (frames per second).
On my PC I get 60 to 70 fps on normal detail.
but not a really good demo to stress test your vid card as it uses quite small amounts of texture memory. The best is reverend's crusher demo from DM9. If you can run that at 1024x768 with everything on at 32bit, you have one stonking vid card!!
You'll find seperate CPU stress and texture stress demos in the Framerate & Visual Tweaks section of the UC & Savage Team Arena & Quake3 Guide. The stress demos are available for Quake3 1.17, Quake3 1.27g and Team Arena. There are tweaks for Team Arena and Quake3 in the same section. URL follows:
I would say it should be fine. I am using a GF DDR with a 600mhz proccy and it is grand. Try and see!! Add on decoders are not that expensive anyway if you subsequently need to buy one.
UC never went anywhere just the domain name problems meant the guides couldn't be accessed for a while =( UC founded August 1996, still alive and well in December 2000 =)
np's Requiem, I have always found the UC guides to be THE primary source of Quake3 tweaking info around, so I was a bit "Upset" to find they werent around, however temporarily.
