Quake 3 Gamma

Is there any console settings to adjust the gamma in Quake 3? Under Windows 2000 & the TNT2 Ultra, things are a little 2 dark for my liking. For some reason the normal gamma slider doesnt seem to do much past 30%.

After using Q2 Gamma I'd love to have this level of brightness under Q3. It sure is nice not to have to adjust the monitor contrast before and after every game :)

Any help would be appreciated :)

Had the same problem with my Geforce 2 and W2K. In full screen, it was realy dark, but fine in a window. Got 'round it by using a shareware utility called Powerstrip. This gives you hot keys to change gamma and brightness on the fly - also gamma reset.
Works great ! You can get it from:
http://www.download.com

Hope that helps.

or simply use

\r_gamma 1.00

values < 1.00 = darker
values > 1.00 = brighter

:)

I had the same prob on a W2K machine in college - I sorted it out by messing round with the r_overbrightbits setting

I've tried both suggestions, but they only take effect when running q3 in a window :(

Any gamma setting above 1 in full screen does nothing at all, I cant understand why. Tis the same thing as the normal brightness setting under system\display. This also doesnt effect the brightness unless its in a window. In full screen, I can use it from 0% to 25%, any higher makes no difference to the contrast.

Could be a problem with the tnt2 drivers, q3 or win 2k... who knows :(

Thanks for the replies tho ppl

k I set that, then restarted q3

That disables my brightness adjustment in the settings, but r_gamma and r_overbrightbits in fullscreen still have no effect :(

This is really frustrating, even adjusting my monitor direct on playing, the shadows are far too dark. argh!!!

I have a TNT2 Ultra and Win2k.
I did
/r_ignorehwgamma 1
/r_gamma 2
/vid_restart
and it worked for me.

Barely makes a difference :(

As I said, upping gamma past 1 makes no diff, so I tried that suggestion with 2 & 3, looks identical.

Thx for the reply m8
