Quake 2 GL Problems

I recently discovered that I can no longer play Quake 2 in OpenGL, although I have been able to previously with no problems. Soon as I switch to default OpenGL I get this error:

GLimp_EndFrame() - SwapBuffers() failed!

I'm running Windows 2000 Professional, nvidia's 5.17 drivers (also tried 5.22) and have a TNT2 Ultra.

Any suggestions would be welcomed :)

Oh, genius.

I've spent over 30 hours customising this!!!!

Besides, q3 works perfectly.

Windows 2000?

Your own fault then ;)

try gl_driver "opengl32" in the console, although I'd bet you've done that already :)

I havent no, thanx I'll give that a try.

I also think you'd be pleasantly surprised by Windows 2000, it's far better than win95/98, more stable in general, and quick on my P500/256mb :)

Right your problem there is the 5.22 drivers... opengl wont work
Use the following registry edition to fix:

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
/Software
/Microsoft
/WindowsNT
/CurrentVersion
/OpenGLDrivers
Delete the entire sub-key RIVATNT.

In /OpenGLDrivers, create a new string value RIVATNT and set it's vaule to "nvoglnt" without the quote.

Oh by the way, windows 2000 is MUCH better then windows 98. I actually purchased it for one. And for two, its more stable, faster, my installation has been running for weeks on end without needing restarts etc.
98 cripples after a day.

Did you have to say pint? I could really do with one right now!

So, Windows 2000 ain't as bad as their making out then? What's that, it's better?

Hmmmmm. Might have to give it a try then, mightn't I.... cheers. (Blast, that's a drinking phrase.... where's the Christmas whiskey gotten to?)

Hehe.. There are a few games around that dont work, but nothing good.( tomb raider is one, luckily :) )
Otherwise if you can get along with it, its a nice bit of OS .. i certainly recommend it, more so if your nicely dabhanded with windows

I recommend it too, although its based on NT, it makes for a quick and stable gaming OS. I havent tried a wide range of games simply because I've been an addicted quaker since I installed q2 ctf in oct 98...

I pushed it hard 1 day, check
this
out (hope that linked correctly hehe)

It supports duel booting anyway, so u can always drop back to win 95/98 if some obscure game doesnt work :]

What? Tomb Raider doesn't work on it?

Hehe, anyway to ban that bint from me comp would simply cheer me up :)

Ok, I concede. Apart from the press, who'd like to say Mother Theresa was a bad ass bitch if they got the chance; I've not actually heard anything bad about Windows 2000.

Won't be running servers tho, so wouldn't I be best off waiting for Windows Millenium?

No. I dont run servers either. However my computer is on most the time, it has never ever crashed on me, and whats more, so far WinMe is shite :/.
Its still based on windows 98 for a start.

Run scandisk and _then_ reboot ;)

Seriously though, Win2k does 0wn. Installed for 3 months and NEVER crashed, not once.

More features, better security. Only thing that sucks at the moment is the hardware support which can be a bit thin on the ground for some things.

Also getting GeForces to run on Win2k with an Athlon system can be a pain in the butt too. Mucho hax0ring was required ;)
