q3 urban terro type newbie questions

being a mainly cs player, i have no clue about how the q3 console/configs werk, andyone know any decent web sites with ideas on how to lower your ping and improve ya frame rate?

I must appologise for the bnewness, but that's what ya get for being a half-life-er
