Well basically my fps go up and down all the fucking time(even when i stand still).
I've set com_maxfps to 125 and it goes from 125 to 60 and doesnt stay @ 125 (non-stop).
I am running an AMD 1,4 AMD, XP and i got the latest 4-1 Drivers. I had this problem before and somehow it disappeared. But a min ago when i rebooted my pc after 2 days its back again and its fucking annoying :/

This happens on all the mods, even when i start my own server. CFG aint the problem!

HELP GRR!

It sounds like you might have something else running in the background.
Although the newer graphics cards do a lot of the donkey work themselves, your pc's cpu does a fair old bit towards your fps score too. Obviously if your cpu is having to do other stuff, this can reduce your fps while its doing it.
Maybe you have your email program set to check for mail every X minutes? Maybe a virus program? There are many many popular programs which by default will be set to 'check for new versions' and other similar annoying stuff.
Take a look at what is being loaded up at startup, not just in the startup directory (which is often empty), but also by running msconfig (win98/me) or download one of the many programs on the net (try a search on google.com) which allow you to modify files and programs that execute on startup.

Me too..

I've been getting sudden drops in my framerate when I am playing on line. Only since I had ADSL though I think it might be the crappy alcatel 'frog' :touch: eating up CPU cycles. Will be upgrading it soon or possibly setting up a home network  and putting it on the server.

I agree about the frog.

I use a USB mouse and, combined with the frog, it certainly seems to make Q3 suffer. I don't know what sort of bandwidth the two devices take up on the USB bus, but I find quite a lot of the time I press fire and nothing happens (usually whilst RJing, which causes a few sniggers on RA3 servers!).

Yep the frog eats up a lot of CPU time, think when I had it there was often a 20% reduction in framerate depending on what settings I was using. I ended up moving my adsl conn onto an old PC and just networking them together to sort that one.

I built a duron 650 and put Smoothwall on it and then networked to that. It handles the frog, acts as a firewall and lowers my ping by about 5-10 :)
Highly recommended.

K guys thanks for the help (although pretty useless :D)
Anyway, i am back to win2k and the problems just became bigger :(.
I really tried everything, 4 different drivers, changing bios settings, Via 4-1 drivers, Vsync etc..nothing helps. FPS stay @ 50 fps (not stable, they just go up and down from 50 to 60 then back and then up to 70 even when i don't move and start my own server). I don't run any programs in my background like virusscanners etc.. So that's not the problem really....This is really pissing me off :(

Is Q3 the only game u play, just wondering if there were others that were ok, or not. If it is only Q3 might be worth putting a second new install on, and before loading anything else (patches etc) see how it runs, then slowly introduce stuff until it fux0rs up. If not I personally have ended up doing a format and going thru the same process putting Q3 on first, running timedemos and finding when it goes slower. If it goes slow on a fresh format/install then it sounds like summink is more screwed either hardware or bios wise. Defo cache isnt disabled in the BIOS or anything?

I have a feeling uve said in a diff post, but what vid card u running and at what res/bit/colour settings u using etc?

Hmm just read your post on other forum which answers that...GF2Mx with graphics tweaked....

You did post there that all was at 100fps.....did u change anything or install software, change Q3 config or anything no matter how small before it went back to being bad again?

You said you applied the 4-in-1 via drivers. Are you sure all the mobo components are via? I have a abit kg7 raid and have to ensure that the AGP drivers are not installed during the via 4-in-1 install process and then put the AMD agp drivers on. I don't profess to know much about all that northbridge / southbridge mobo stuff, but it might be worth considering, especially as we are talking the AGP drivers ...... in my case anyway.
You might like to look at http://www.motherboards.com
The forums can be particularly helpful.
