just an idea for mod makers out their. Try to get your mod on a publication somewhere. I know PC Gamer do feature a few on their but just not enough. As a player of many Quake 3 mods I find it frustrating to spend every weekend downloding the 50MB updates whioch, on a modem, take a long time.

Its not the first time that such an idea has been suggested.

PCGAMER do there best but because they have to get the CDs writtern it often means that once you got hold of them there is another update to the mod.

There are now so many mods that all get updated at different times that is another reason why it would be hard.

Interesting points. It's certainly a good idea, and the less patient of us players find downloading 80 odd meg for the likes of Ra3 tedious to say the least.
An idea though : what if people were to pay just a little?
Look at Ra3 : in my opinion, and quite a few others, that mod alone made Quake 3 as good as it is. I'd have paid for it. If people paid a company a fiver or enough to cover the costs, for them to be sent a cd with the mod of their choice. Update due? Send the CD back, the update is slapped on, CD shipped back to you with the patch ready for you to use : A little slow though through snail mail, maybe a local store you pop into with a CD and they burn the updates on for you ?

Funny idea really, you walk into your local PC specialist store, hand them a cd, and they burn you the latest CS patch.
Could work. Doubt it, but still :)

Here here! I've never been able to play counterstrike because of it. I spent hours downloading the latest version and the patch wouldn't even activate - how does anyone manage to play it!

I like the look of Q3 Fortress but won't attempt to download the large initial file until it's on a cover disk. By then I expect there's another 30Mb patch out to make sure you never get to play the sodding thing.
