Q3 Alliance final rel now out ;)

Just letting ppl know that Alliance is out and imo is best mod/game out there now fer Q3. Brings back grapple, great maps, techs, laods of other stuff./

It's 50M in size, but well worth the download and there should be a Jolt server up tomorrow fer it

Dunno if anyone else had any probs but I found it resumed ok on the www.planetquake.com/alliance mirrors. (I was using Getright tho for resuming)

Otherwise there is a link to the zip (read instructions for install for windows if zip and not .exe) about 3/4 down page on www.quake3world.com.

Bugger, where are the jolt servers located?

Seeing as I'm from Dublin, Ireland, pings to different UK servers can be a bit finickey. I cant seem to get better than 160 in gamespy to the jolt servers and substantially worse in-game I ping 60-100 to the BW servers though and good & solid.

What has happened to the Barrysworld server? Any chance of trying to make a go of it again with the final release?

This and some of the other Jolt servers have an odd feature in the way your ping gets reported.

Try upping your snaps to 40 and see if your ping goes down, don't leave it at this if you're on modem...just as a test. I think this is only the way the ping gets reported and not real playtime ping. I've raised the issue with Jolt.
I.e. my ping on that server is really 50 but reported as 100, I can tell tho in game it is actually 50. This is something to do with the way Id have calculated your ping from you snaps/rate setting and now included packetloss into the calculation, but I think they've made a mistake with it.

The Barrysworld server was taken down afaik prob due to lack of use. No one really plays the betas too much after the initial interest, but now the final Alliance is out, it may be different. I think if the Jolt server gets used a lot, BW would prob look at hosting one themselves.

Oops I can see your prob on ISDN, try snaps of 40 like I said and let me know what your ping is.
