Anyone have any experience with HDD based PVRs, those combined with a Freeview box ? Can you recommend any good makes or manufacturers ?

Is it possible to get a PVR with a DVD Writer in it, to dump recorded programs onto a DVD, or alternatively connect a PVR to a PC for the same purpose ?

Soz Xane, not my area of expertise - but you could try asking on a forum such as avforums.com. They have a dedicated PVR section.

Hope this helps!

I've had a Tivo 40Gb for many years, its been superb. Lifetime sub as well, so no extra payments. It just connects to the phone overnight and updates itself.

You can set it to change the channels on just about any piece of equipment, it has an IR emitter on the front to do this. Just bounces off the nearest wall and back again. If bouncing off the wall doesn't work, they also come with a little IR bulb on a lead that you just place in front of your telly box, and it acts like a remote control. I have it set to record any and every programme that I like, so it records all Top Gear episodes, no matter what day they're on (but not repeats - although thats selectable), The Bill, Traffic Cop programmes, History stuff, its great. You can also upgrade the HD very easily, although I've not bothered as I've never run out of space.

Loads available on Ebay. Highly recommended.

Ooops I missed that bit...but it does have the handy electronic program guide. So you could buy a seperate Freeview Box...
