I must say I dont like the sound of these - I much preferred pvp in Wow before these damn games came out.

The Problems with mini-games are:

1. Queue'ing - I hate spending an evening queueing - it sucks!!!

2. Random v guilds - eventually you end up with set groups playing these things and any random group that plays gets their ass handed to them - its seriously anti casual gamers.

3. Drop outs - many people who are on the losing side just quit - destroys the whole thing really.

4. Mini-games destroy interesting pvp in the pvp zones - I want those zones busy and anarchic :p

Opinions?

I think PvP minigames are great, it gives the feeling of arcade pvp much like CS or such, if you get tired of or do not want to run in the huge frontiers. Great supplement if the servers will be crowded that is.

Yes - thats exactly what I fear - I was on a pvp server in wow and loving pvp before there was even any rewards or ranking - its just fun!

But the battlegrounds just sucked the life out of world pvp - even the zerging at Tarren Mill was better than waiting hours for a crap match...

I admit i never played WoW, but what difference will the "AoC PvP" make to distracting players from the high end / main PvP? The only way minigames won't have an effect is if they are dull

PvP instances are all well and good, i fear the pvp xp loss might put a lot of players off them though.

it only sucks if ur playing alliance in WoW tho. and in that case you deserve it if ur playing on that side.

on my battle group i never had to wait more then 30 seconds on horde. sure if i try to BG at 4 AM in the morning i get to wait but meh.

but i dont think theres gonna be alot of waiting in AoC as theres no "sides" there afaik. so you wont have to deal with overpopulation on one side as in WoW alliance.

oh comon. theres still plenty of world pvp on the pvp servers. and if ur not on those then what did you expect?

ppl play on the normal servers for a reason, to get away from the "world pvp" that is ganking XP'ers and then corpse camp them.

For the record I played horde on a pvp server but I still saw massive differences after the pvp mini-games started up.

sorry then :)

but i dont think you have to worry much about there not being any open world pvp in AoC. remember those border keeps only able to have 9 max? think there will be plenty of pvp around those keeps then you ever had in WoW pre BG's :)

i just hope Funcom dont go the pvp epix route that blizzard is taking now.

or if they do, only have them work in pvp so they dont turn out to be the lazy mans gear up for raiding.

Only problem with that idea is that Funcom have woven the border keeps and the mini-game together - youll need to do well in the mini games to have a good place in the queue to attack a keep...

I'm still overall positive about the game and tbh its too complex to say beforehand exactly how these mechanisms pan out but if they are duff I hope they change em fast!

hmm. now that didnt sound good. but i can see why they have this. if not those keeps would be under siege 24/7/365, never really serve any purpose for anyone.

guess theres a technical limit on how many keeps they can have otherwise u'd end up having a few hundreds of em in the rvr zones.
