get partition magic, make a new partition, by resizing your win xp partition, install win 2k into it, then install boot magic, on both, so you can decide which to boot.

What has win2k got that xp doesn't give you?

Boot Magic will feck up the install of both XP and 2K.

It is safer and easier to use boot.ini from XP to allow access to both Operating Systems.

hi, I know what you mean about bootmagic, only recommended it, as it's the only way I know of.

This is my boot.ini in win 2k

[boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

I assume I can change the timeout=30 to whatever which I will.

I have 2 options to the same win2k, the other is a old /nt which is now deleted, I had to keep it to salvage my documents, when I put my hardisk in a different computer. I had to re-install win 2k keeping my old /nt folder.

Any idea how I can change my boot.ini to get rid of the redundant option, or better still delete the boot menu altogether, as I don't need it.

Cheers

That might be a problem, all NT based O/Ses (NT / 2K / XP / .NET) have a boot.ini

From the MS KnowledgeBase
Windows (specifically Ntldr) uses the Boot.ini file to determine the operating system options to display during the startup (boot) process
NTLDR is only present on NT based O/Ses

* Definately applicable to Win2K, might work for WinXP

Can't find any other boot.ini but I tried changing the secs to wait, in the boot.ini and it had no effect.

I found this
This document explains how to modify NT’s Boot.ini to correctly reflect the location of the NT partition. The Boot.ini file will incorrectly reflect the location of the NT partition if you use PartitionMagic’s Copy feature to copy an NT partition or if you use Drive Image to copy a partition. In these cases, the Boot.ini will reflect the position of the original partition and need to be updated to reflect the new position. Source: PowerQuest

The Link isn't valid, not sure what to do about it.
