atm i can notice you can drop strenght & sword skill since it is intended to be "pure caster", won't need all the str on crafted pieces or quickness (do thanes have evade?) dex is needed for cast speed and block rate (defence) then u can cap stormcalling and have some spots to use for capping resis, hits (+370) or other issues :)

quickness is required for slamming faster.

Can you fit anymore range in it? Kinda interested, I don't really know mid drops and have an old caster frosty thane on avalon.

I think the only range you can get with a thane is using phoebus 4% / and prob ml10 stuff not really checked ml10 stuff tho.

might be possible to get 8-10% range aswell as the above bonuses but i'm quite sure resists would suffer massively for it.

50 sc is a must for thrown weapon 200 damage instant every 10 seconds should not be passed up. As for overall spec most of the thanes i've talked to go 34 sword 20 parry 42 shield 50 sc regardless of being pure caster, being caught in melee encounters is unavoidable regardless of stuns/snares you will have to melee at some point and with the 34 sword style you can still dish out a little bit of hurt regardless of template stats leaning towards casting.

So thrwn weapon from battlemaster ML is based on spell dmg and your skill on that? i didn't know :eek: Don't u find it better to have 50 shield on the block rate instead of 42 for saving RAs pts for wildpower etc, then parry a bit raised and enuf sword to have lvl 15 style (useful to run off or take distance for spellcasting)? is ok u dish out little bit dmg at melee, but if you REALLY want to focus it on spell dmg you can survive with 15 swrd and +% block/parry (plus +1 extra stun second from brutalize) and u can also use shield as main dmg dealer on melee (will do more dmg than sword, just don't have the proc, yes, that's right) but anyways intented to be dmg casting not meleeing and if u get caught at melee and can't stun/snare/kite then block and parry can let you live until stun/snare effect is again available when inmunity timer on those is off, just imho :eek:

It looks good to the price :) But i have seen very nice hybrid templates with 101 str, and 75+ quickness aswell and +11 shield and skill to weap.

And greatest thane spec in my opinion is:

50 SC, 42 Shield, 34 Sword, 20 Parry

Thanes also get direct damage procs off styles now (the 34 style has a 45 dd on it which scales slightly with weapon skill)

I do have charplan on my PC but had to use cata web since I cannot install stuff here thanks anyways buddy :)

Depends really seems attractive but the chances are you'll be casting shit if the targets slammed or running away leave it to the other meleers in grp to snare people if needed :p the time it takes you to run through a target and snare him you could have casted 2-4 times which is about 600-1200 damage pending target resists.

I used to have a Thane that was 50 SC, 42 Shield 39 Hammer 6 Parry, it was fantastic in PvE, great group farming toon, rarely died and it was OK against melee classes in PvP too, but pretty much free RP's for stealthers and long ranges casters.

50sc, 42shield, 39sword, 6parry.
If acting as a "casterThane" in a group, that's the BEST possible spec.

50sc, 42shield, 34sword, 20parry.
If solo, and enough rr to have a effective 51 weaponspec (50, if you're below rr5), would be the best possible "casterspec".

And as it happens, it's the spec that works best for me, melee-wise as well.
Dishing out about 250-400(+) dmg from melee part of Polar Rift alone, another 45-60 dmg from dmg-add, and another 70-120 damage from dd proc of Polar Rift.
Thats 375 - 580 damage, from each hit with a 34sword spec.
And My mainThane is a a frosty, with no augstr.
On soft targets, with debuff procc going off, and a nice melee-crit, I could do about 750-1100 damage (the 1100 damage ain't that common obviously, but happens).

Think best I've had, in 1 hit, was like 607+272(crit)+56(dmg-add)+141(dd proc)+187(omni dd proc from Divine Lightning) = 1263.

Now thats ^^, a really rare thing, but thats very close to the potential.
And ofc it's with a template with 101str, 10% melee-dmg/style-dmg/spell-dmg/spell-piercing (7% melee-speed, 10% casting-speed and 98piety, hehe), 34+21sword, and Very high Mastery of Magery.


So even if not that good meelee-stats, 300-500 damage, with 2-hander shan't be a problem to dish out, thus it's a really bad idea to spec sword below 34sword, as a Thane(and Valkyrie).

So as mentioned above, it's something really good to have, DoomHammer. And then I haven't mentioned the possible utility, on top of "just the damage". :]

BoS is nice, but not so good belt for a Template, and weapon still dissapear if one die while it's night. :/

I got one... I only did show it for 1 person though - it's kinda supreme (lol), unless you want magic resist... I have to run aom4, for my magical resist to be decent.

Else I got a few others, you aiming for solo/duo/smallman(this mayhapp?), or group/rvr-action?
(I kinda never focus on parry and shield in my Thane templates, there's alot of other things, that need to be in there)

Sorry my bad i read badly there, ah well guess you can have BoS on bag slot and equip it to use the timer when u have a break? maybe then u can equip your template belt and have weapons for a while :D could be nice to see if debuffs from ur proc and weapon proc stack, furthermore some people have low energy resist because many people don't use that kind of dmg to attack :)

Thats what I'm planning to use for hybrid solo thane! Its has overcapped str so when I swap to 2h astral weapon I have 96 str :p

I wanna template my (troll:() thane, but I have NO clue how to play or even template it if I plan on running in groups. I haven't played it for years.. 50SC, 42shield and 39sword would be the most obvious spec? Is there any other spec that would suit the group better? I can imagine that I will mostly be bodyguarding, interrupting casters and not hanging out with the melee train that much, or am I wrong here aswell?

Anyone have a decent bg thane group template? Everything needs to be capped ofc..(no just kidding! :p)

As the melee DD procs are based on STR (or WS not sure) I thought troll thanes with aug str were fotm at one point doing massive damage on the procs, or did they change nerf that?
