The other day playing on Jolt dm server , (dont make me feel guilty we've never had a populated dm server, before or after p2p) there was a bloke by the name of Ash. He was doing pretty well, about 20 points ahead of the rest, and another guy whos name escapes me was screaming and yelling about Ash and his cheating.
Now tbh I dont consider myself good enoguh to spot whether he was cheating or not, but it struck me that he probably wasnt. Until that is, our second chap says "ok then , if that how you want it", and leaves the server. I thought he was going to get an admin. Oh no. he comes back onto the server a couple of minutes later, and starts racking up some nasty scores. Flying along he was, and immediately Im sure hes turned some cheat on. the thing is, his style of play, as in lots on machine gun kills, is exactly like our friend Ash.
So, it seems not only do I have to put up with regular yellow spikes on my lagometer, something I havent even had turned on since the first or second patch, but people cheat and get away with it too !
You know, I dont think Ill be playing q3 again for a while :/

You know mate, it's a sad state of affairs that people consider cheating as an option. Every game that's released gets exploited by kiddies or sad individuals who could do with getting themselves a real life, enjoying games for fun (as they should be) and not be so obsessed with winning at all costs. I haven't got my gauntlet out for a long long time now, mostly cos the game stopped being fun anymore, as most people were not out to enjoy themselves, just to try and get one over on the next man.
I play DAOC a lot these days and even in that, a mmorpg, people even go as far as to buy 2 copies of the game, pay 2 monthly subscriptions and setup 2 pc's to run them on, just so they can have two characters logged in at once, one a fighting class, the other a healer type who can cast stuff on them to increase their ability ........ and own all the opposition. It's very sad, but imho a side effect of people who spend too much time in their virtual worlds and forget that your supposed to enjoy playing games, win or lose.
Ok rant over ;) Someone will always find a way around anti-cheat software, it's only a matter of time. All you can do I spose is spectate, demo the offender, leave and find another server and send the details to pb. It kinda ruins it for those with morals though eh mate :(

So true m8 :(
At least in CS if someones found cheating on a server theres an enormous outcry and wailing and gnashing of teeth (well maybe :) ) . But on that server no one commented at all. Depressing.

Punkbuster actually works in Q3 tho... its updated frequently enough to catch people out (ie updated on the fly at anytime) not like CS with announced patches/new CSGuard configs etc

Generally, DM servers are populated with casual quakers, so they probably didnt know people were cheating in truth (not being condescending at all)

Jolt CTFS servers had a guy called 'Jesus' playing a few days ago... he had a G0dlike rail (pun!) hitting about 50-60% and some great shots.. numerous "aliasing chump" "who are you Jesus?" "are you clanned?" type comments followed.. to which he was polite. The very next day he was kicked and banned from the server he was playing on for cheats detected. As I understand it.. PB will ban his client auth id from every PB enabled Q3 server.

I feel much more confident playing Q3 than Half life that cheats arent able to get away with it for long.

Edit: Happy Birthday :)
