same as what happened with the psone. They can get more of the original pieces on one chip now, so they can bring the size down. allegedly they've even got it to the stage where they have the whole power of the ps2 onto a single chip.

May well get one of these, as my second PS2 is starting to make a few clicking noises accessing DVD's now. University really is a PS2 killer. Drunk and stoned people have no idea how to treat the greatest game console on the planet ever in history bestest!

Got one of these new PS2's at work and its seriously sexy. Got it on top of my xbox and I realise that if the xb were hollow I could get 8 of these new PS2's inside almost exactly. The new units width is just a little less than the depth (front to back) of the xb and its own depth is almost exactly half the width of the xb.
However, thats cheating a bit as that doesnt include the new external PSU although its not that big.

Funnily enough, its smaller than my portable DVD player which I sometimes cart up to Liverpool to use in the hotel so I think I'll get one to replace that. The fact that its a PS2 as well is a bonus. BO3 in my hotel room... w00h00!
