Just decided to download the trial of Photoshop and read a tutorial and i just made this

To my knowledge, since always. There was certainly a trial last time I looked for one, though that was version 5 or something.

Yes as far as I know there has always been trial versions which last about 30 days or so...

The Photoshop 7.0 version does not enable you to save, export or print artwork.

In photoshop, how do you make the background transparent if there is only one layer??

Use Filter | Extract to 'cut out' the background. If there is reasonable contrast in colour between your foreground and background (ie the bit you want and the bit you don't want) use the Smart Highlighting feature.
