I got a Plantronics Headset, it has 3.5mm jacks and came with a USB adapter, the mic works but the headphones don't, if I set the headphones up (under Settings -> Accessory Settings -> Audio Device Settings or Voice Changer) and test the mic the sound comes through the headphones, but outside this setting, and in a game, the sound continues to come through the TV, I've looked all through the options (including Settings -> Sound Settings) and cannot find anything else referring to USB headphones.

Do you have to plug the headphone jack directly into the TV, or can it actually work direct from the PS3 via the USB adapter ?

TIA

afaik those usb headsets work on your pc as a second sound card, it has drivers that install it as such. You can't do that on a ps3.

may well be wrong, but it seems like the common sense answer to me.

I was just writing a reply and then realised something... are you trying to get the GAME sound into your headset, or just voice chat?

Typically, you'll get the game sound through the TV and voice chatter through the headset. If you want to just use the headphones instead of the TV speakers, I don't see why you wouldn't just plug them into the TV.

The USB adapter is for the onboard soundcard inside the adapter, it isn't a input/output connection tool.

You just have to connect directly using the jacks.

That sounds reasonable, thanks.
