The word on the street is the PS3's new cell processor will have possibly 4 of them working in parallel, each one is about 10 times as powerful as a Pentium 4 chip.

The full details of the cell processor can be found here.

Hi guys

It should be said that the power output of the Cell processors is theoretical, and will require developers go the extra mile to actually use it effectively, but still it's very impressive :)

Anyway, a shameless quote I've posted elsewhere ... :D

PC Format April 2005 said:
The Cell is designed for vector processing ... handled by something called a Synergistic Processor Element or SPE. [...] a single Cell processor has eight SPEs all running summultaneously ...

Each SPE is a complete, independent processor core with four integer maths units, four floating-point units and 256K of its own internal memory. Controlling all of these is yet another processor ... based on IBM's PowerPC chip. [...] nine complete processors plus local storage all packed onto a single chip
Kind Regards
