Yeah I do admit it's a bit hit and miss. I get much better results with some problem files that would not play properly before, but conversely I get other issues playing files I never had a problem with before.

Cool, might see if this works any better on FreeNAS than Serviio now.

You'll need to grab java 7.0 for it too, although it will install it itself if you don't have it.

I can never seem to get this working correctly, i have PS3 media server, and it see's the drive and even plays the files, but its slow, it stutters, and if i try to scan forward any more than x10 it just freezes. Its like it cant handle it.

i have a wired connection, not wireless. Its a new build PC, its more than powerfull enough. Sholud i be ticking certain boxes or changing stuff from the default to make it run more efficiantly. My mate uses it and he scans through the libraries and selects and plays stuff at the push of the button

There's clearly something wrong there Ed as on windows its always been just a case of unpack and run for me.

I run Serviio straight from NAS C just because my main box makes too much noise and the NAS is always on. PS3MS has always been better though in terms of features.

Do you have something blocking it? It may be a setting in your router I suppose.

Oh and Ed, I find the scanning forward shit to, but thats because I use the highest quality settings available, I tend to use the time skip instead to instantly move forward to a point in time.

I have the ethernet cable plugged intop the back of my router, via a mains network, into the PS3, Is it cos i am trying to watch large files maybe?

I dont have a NAS drive, i just stream it of the C drive on my PC. Its plugged into the new BT hub (infinity) but the broadband speed should have nothing to do with it

Doubt it, the PS3 plays large files that are transcoded for me with PS3MS.

When you say mains network, do you mean powerplug routers?

yes, sorry. It would be difficult to get the cable direct from hub to PS3

It will be the poweplug that's causing that. Sounds like lots of dropped packets. Is the powerplug going via a multiway socket at any stage?

In ps3 mediaserver go to "Transcoding Settings" and the in the "Video Quality Settings" select either the hi quality or medium quality WIFI options. See if this improves things, if not try wifi rather than the powerplugs for your ps3.

Yes, i have it going through a surge protector, i'll give the wifi a go too

That's probably your issue Edmond, those powerplug things don't perform very well if they aren't plugged directly into the wall. Remove the surge protection and try again.

Just re-conned to wifi and the connection speed has more than quadrupled. Changed the video setting to 'medium quality for HD wifi'

Gonna have a play and see what happens

Long term I'd look into getting a ethernet cable from your router to your ps3.

Full HD over wireless will be awful matey, I've tried it and no matter the settings it will suck. Have you tried your ethernet over power plugs directly into the wall sockets at both ends yet? In my experience this will massively improve their performance.

No not yet, i will try later, as they are buried under my desk atm. I'll keep a note of the speeds when i'm doing it.

Cheers

Oh and Ch3t, do you think it might be time to loose the santa puppy.....just sayin

Got to find a way to run it so it is short as possible, does it not lose strength if its too long?
