I'm dead chuffed with my PS2 now.

I only bought it back at the end of february so was reluctant to fit a mod chip that would invalidate the warranty so I forgot about it for a bit.

Then I bought Burnout3 and really fancied trying it online so tracked down a network adapter for the ps2.

I noticed on the adapter it had slots to plug in a HDD. This got me thinking and I had a little look into it.

Turns out that Maxtor hard drives fit the socket pretty perfectly. I just happened to have 20 gig maxtor drive lying around gathering dust.

So after a bit more investigation and hours scouring the web and trial and error stuff, I've finally got my ps2 fitted with a working hard drive that I can backup my ps2 games to and play from the HDD which dramatically cuts down loads times.

I'm thinking of writing a guide to help anyone else who might like to do this.

The only thing is you can't play games from the HDD online. Some sort of detection thwarts this and you'll need to use your original disk for this. No biggy.

I've had my PS2 fitted with a 120 gig HDD for a couple of months now.

Bought the HDLoader software before it got taken off sale after $ony threatened to kill the families of those responsible for it.

I would say that it works with approx 85% of games that I have (mostly imports) but not with PS1 games alas - so no Bubble Bobble on the HDD :(

What's this got to do with "ftp" BTW?

I forgot to go into specifics. With the FTP software you can backup your memory card directly to your HDD in your pc and copy it back on again of course.
