Dudezors,

just sold my old ps/3 last week to a mate, and after a week of playing he calls me to say the thing is telling him "HDD inaccessible" or words to that effect.
Is this a known event? The unit is just a smidgin over two years old (2y and three weeks actually).

Now I actually have a laptop hdd here, a 160GBer. Can I fit that in the unit? Can any lappy hdd go in the ps/3? The unit is one of the original 40GB models.

Cheerzors!

Phone Sony, their customer support is usually a freephone and is quite helpful.

Lie to them btw, and get him to say he bought it new 6 or 7 months ago and now it has failed. They won't check and will usually just swap the unit over.

nice tips, cheers Yaks and Chets.

won't I void all the warranties (as far as they still exist) if I open it though?

yesh indeedy. thanks for the tips guys, I swapped out the hdd with great ease. the unit was borked and refused to start though, so I had to boot it and perform the update ritual with an USB stick and some freshly downloaded firmware. is that normal when you swap out the disk?

yeh I had to reflash it with the start/select thing and everything. after that it was at factory defaults and he had to redo all his settings.
