What does this mean server uses protocol 45? I have the lastest patch, me and my mate cant seem to connect to the same server. I use ntl dial up and he use btinternet if this helps.
Just because you have the latest patch, 1.27h?, doesn't mean that the server you are connecting to is using that patch. I had similar problems when I lost my service for a few weeks and when I came back online various patches had been released for both Q3 (1.27h) and RA3 (1.4 at the time but now 1.5). It took a while and a bit of playing around to get the right combination. Currently I'm playin on BW a lot and they seem to have all up to date patches applied so I would give them a go. I guess this is why some people use programs that switch between current and older (1.7 seems popular) versions.
I think you may need to upgrade to 1.27h first (small download) and give that a try on barrysworld. As for reverting , well normally this involves removing certain pak files from your Baseq dir, think its pak4 and 5 and then applying the old patch, say 1.17. I woul;d first of all see if you can connect to a server that I know works with the 1.27h patch.
Also make sure you arent trying to connect to a server for which you havent got the appropriate MOD such as Rocket Arena , as you have to have these mods installed. I think you just get kicked back to the Q3 menu if you dont have them.
As for your friends small number of hits. He is probably using a filter in gamespy or some such programme that only displays servers say with a ping lower than 100ms. I use filters a lot so i only see Rocket Arena servers or TDM or DM etc It speeds up the refresh process as you arent pinging everything.
