Hehe... just realised that the title to this thread sounds like I am writing a thesis on it!
I wonder if people could give me feedback on the following suggested strategy for artifact hunting in ToA:
First of all, does this sound at all familiar to everyone:
So, without pretending to have a great amount of experience in organising artifact hunts, I was wondering what people thought about this as a more logical and efficient way of going about things:
1) Get a diverse but experienced and reliable bunch of people together who:
.....a) Want a wide range of different artifacts between them
.....b) Are kind and patient enough to help others with arties and scrolls they want in the knowledge that they in turn will get help with theirs, even if it takes a while.
2) Decide on a time for first meet that is
.....a) Convenient for all concerned
.....b) Optional but preferable: Not at a peak DaoC useage time
3) Artygroup Organiser gets all to list the arties they are after and provides everyone with an order of priority that is agreed upon, taking into account how many want each given artifact, frequency of arty encounter spawn rate (mixing up rare and commonish ones), and keeping as many people in the group happy as possible.
4) On the time and date of the first meeting, the group do not meet up together at the start, instead they log on seperately at the same time as follows:
.....a) Each member heads to a different arty encounter, having been allocated one in advance - e.g. if there are 1.5FG in the Arty Hunting mob, there will be 12 different arties allocated for named people to head to.
.....b) Each arty hunter reports back to the battlegroup as to whether or not their given encounter/mob is up.
.....c) The highest priority artifact whose encounter is up is identified off the list, the arty hunter at that encounter stays to camp it, and all others make a beeline to join him/her.
.....d) After a given arty is gained for all the people that want it, time is given to farming the necessary scrolls as a group as well (i.e. this Arty Group isn't just interested in helping its members obtain just the arties themselves... it wants them to get ACTIVATED arties as well).
5) Step 4 repeated after each arty is gained, until time allocated for a given Raid is used up, or there are no further arty encounters up on a given date.
6) A new date and time is set for the next attempt, and so on and so on until everyone has at least one arty or for as long as people keep supporting the group.
Apologies if I am stating the obvious here or if this is a standard tactic anyway that I am ignorant of - but I have too often experienced the "Benny Hill Method" of artifact hunting (anyone who has seen the chase sequences on the end credits of Benny Hill shows should know exactly what I mean) where everyone wastes incredible amounts of time running from arty site to arty site, sometimes seemingly at random.
If people like the sound of this idea and fancy trying it out to see if it works, then please say so here and I will try and give it a go... am very busy over the next week or so with planned ML Raids, but can I suggest 8.00pm UK time on Wednesday 23rd June as a provisional date and time if people are interested?
For the record, I have my eyes on Guard of Valour and Shades of Mist atm

A Generic Arty Raid Leader said:Hey lets go and see if arty A is active... bummer, encounter is down. OK, lets go and take a look at arty B's encounter... grrr, nerf stoopid respawn rates... right everyone, over to arty C... dammit its camped... er... where did my arty hunting group go?![]()
