problems with installation of counter strike - help!!

I have downloaded the game from c-s site all of 84 mb
after running the cs10.exe i belive that the game shud be installed - however every time i try to run game i get the message "hl.exe is missing" what do i do wrong????

a) have you got halflife
b) where, exactly, did you install halflife to
c) did you install CS to the place you installed halflife to

so i believe that there is something i missed - do i have to have halflive ? and where will i be able to obtain it ?

Yes you have to have the game called Half-Life HL Generations Pack or buy CS which comes with the required HL files so that it runs without HL CS.

Counterstrike is not a "stand-alone" game. It's a modification of another game, called HalfLife.

Where can you get halflife? The shops. You have to buy it

Actually Per if you follow the CS link in my above post you'll be able to buy a copy of CS that comes with all the required files to run it.

Aye mate, I know. But, I always advise people to buy HL instead. Why? Cos the retail version of CS is gay basically. It has changed weapon names etc.

As far as I know you can now only buy HL as part of a generations pack which is £30 odd.

I bought the generations pack about 2 weeks ago, for £19. Pretty good cos it comes with HL, OF and CS.

The CS actually installs into its own dir, and the weapon names are diff. Which was very confusing at first, but the names can be changed. For details go to the CS section of BW.

Er where did you buy that from, unless they've changed the generations pack recently I thought the games included were only HL and OF expansion pack.

yep new pack, go to the link above to see a copy of the box. Named the Ultimate Edition!

But the CS game installs into its own Dir.

I had the 84mb d/l patch already tho so i might just install that and be done with it

Yeah i got the generations pack from Game for £19. It comes with half life, half life CS and opposing forces. you get 32 cd-keys one for HL CS and other mods and one for just HL. i would reccomend everyone buys this pack.

If you do get it and just want to install thestandalone CS, install the d/l CS (f you already have it) first. The CS standalone has 5 missing maps which take ages to d/l on 56k, so make a backup of your maps and restore the missing ones after install.
