Problem with Win2k

Ok to start with, when I installed Windows 2000 I had a problem where seemingly at random I would get 'locked' into a certain window, always the current active window and I would be unable to select anything else, either in the taskbar or clicking on other windows, icons etc..
The only way to access them again would be to ctrl, alt, del then cancel the task manager and magically this would fix the problem and I would be able to carry on as normal again and select any file, window or whatever. Although the period beteen fixing it and it happening again was apparently random and I couldn't figure and regular situation why it would happen.

However one day when I updated all my Windows from the Microsoft site it did seem to cure it and I was a happy bunny again.

<- me after
(see the difference?)

Now back to the present, the worm that everyone was so paranoid about a few weeks ago (can't remember name off-hand and cba to go look for it) made me think about updating windows yet again due to security issues and so I did. Downloaded lots of updates and upgrades and whatnot and was left feeling satisfied that I had the most secure and bug-free version of Win2k available.

Do I need to say what happened next? Yup that's right! Suddenly I get this bug back again, I'll be working in a window or just browsing or whatever. I'll want to check on how another task is getting on, be it just irc or me messing around with Terragen or another browser or whatever. However instead of me clicking on it and using it, the current window will grey out as if deselected but I'm unable to get to the other tasks again!
I've reverted to  again.
Yes I can simply ctrl, alt, del and cancel again but it's just so damn annoying.

Can anyone help here or should I go post all this crap again in some technical help forum?

Thanks for any advice.

Best posting it in our hardware/software forum in the first place. Its fairly well populated and responses are usually quick and very helpful.

Hope you get it sorted
