Problem with IRQ sharing

Guys,

I have just upgraded my pc with a Gigabyte 7DXR mobo, AMD XP 1600+ and have reinstalled Win ME (I DID have Win 2k on it but I was having SOOO many probs with it). The mobo has an AWARD BIOS and the problem I am having is that all my PCI cards are sharing the same IRQ. In my old system I could manually allocate an IRQ in the BIOS but in the AWARD BIOS it doesn't seem to be that easy.

Someone said that if you "reserve" the IRQ in the BIOS then only one PCI will use THAT IRQ. I have tried to "reserve" the IRQs but it turns out that if you do this then NO PCIs can use that IRQ.

I have also tried adding the PCIs one at a time but they still share IRQ 11. I know that this aint THAT bad but I want my modem on a separate IRQ cos I am sure that it sharing is the cause of my ping fluctuating as much as it does.

Does anyone know .......

1. How to allocate IRQs in the AWARD BIOS
2. If I can allocate a "reserved" IRQ

What do you mean??

You think I should stick with 2k and iron out the probs? I felt it was too NT-like for my home needs. At least with ME if something doesn't work I at least have half a clue what to do.

Yeah, format and reinstall. If you wanna use ME, you'll be doing that a lot.

to be honest, I'm using Win2k now and although it has general crashes less, I find things just randomly lock-up. Mostly while game playing. I've got all the latest drivers etc but wince gaming is what I mostly do on my computer it's beginning to be a pain. I've got plenty of cooling so it's not getting to warm either.
I want WinXP but that won't install for some odd reason..locks my computer on boot up..

There is an issue between w2k and the 768 via set coud be ur problem ,causes random locks and sound loops in games
ther is a fix some where on microsoft site, i cured mine
