Prob installing RTCW on XP PC

I dunno if this is a common prob with this game but during installation I get an error saying I/O error..possibly due to corrupt installation file etc etc.

However....I can install this on my sons PC (Win 32 /Fat32) as opposed to mine Win XP/NTFS.

The tech support for activision says that a workaround is copying all the CD to the HD and trying installing from that. I obviously cant use my drive (though I tried that (uincluding using software that slows the drive down) so I tried doing it from my sons PC over my LAN.. I got the same message!
I've also tried using DMA on and off for the secondary IDE (to which drive is attached)

So is this something to do with XP, its file system or my drive?

Oh and its not a virus as Ive got Norton and checked (and yes I turn this off during installation)

Useful info?

Via chipset (latest VIA 4 in 1)
Nvidia graphics card with WHQL drivers
>500 MB RAM

Help would be appreciated

Try using your son's PC to copy it all onto a folder on HIS hard drive and then copy the folder across the network, then install from there!

Thanks for the advice. I tried copying direct over the network but not copying to sons pc first. I guess I can also try to install on my sons PC from the folder first to if see all is well before copying the folder to my PC.

Havin looked around a bit into this I think maybe the Cds a bit of a Duffer and my sons drive might be more tolerant than mine.

I've had this with a few games.

Seems my newer machine is a little fussy/fast for some CDs.

You may be able to install directly from your son's machine using your XP machine if you can see the CD drive (mark it as shared). This is what I used to do with my 98 and 95 machines, dunno if it'll work with XP tho.

Hooli.

There's certainly no problems installing on an NTFS file system, worked fine for me. XP installs seem to be fine as well,f rom what I have heard... rip out that other drive for a few moments ;)
