Sad thing is Ch3t is that PES6 is still the best yet to come out on the next gen consoles the online is flawless.
Play PES9 then go online and you will see the players feel slower and less responsive.

Does PES9 on the PS3 slow down (framerate wise) when it gets busy, like PES8 did on the PS3?

Don't get me wrong, pro evo is not awful by any stretch, but it has failed to develop over the last few years. Pro 6 was difficult to like, it was love it or hate it. They made big changes for 8, but it made it a run of the mill game. Fifa was rebuilt from the found up for 08 and it showed.
I have always liked pro for its realism, the difficulty and build up required to score a goal. That is no longer the case, fifa was the arcade game before, but now it is more realistic than pro.
But being realistic does not mean the gameplay suffers, multiplayer and singleplayer fifa is just smoother and more fun.
I hope the pro team realise they have messed up and try to claim their crown back next year.

Played the demo of fifa 09 last night Chet, I'm not feeling it? Will need to play some more tonight.

Played Fifa again tonight, really not liking it.
Played the PES 2009 demo and loved it from the off; the graphics and horrid slow downs have been sorted, I find the gameplay more fluid and they've also fixed the "sprint down the wing, press long pass, make a pixel perfect cross, press "shoot", woooot a flying header into the top corner!" style of plat that got incredibly boring on PES 2008 and i'm glad the long passes have been fixed so that you need to get the power correct on those square passes or when switching play from one wing to the other.
The only really, really, really fucking annoying thing that's still there is that if someone clears the ball and it's heading out of play - even if you HAVE control of a player - the computer still assists you to intercept that high ball going out of play, so instead of letting it go so you can take the thrown in, you end up touching it out of play yourself and giving a throw to the other team. Does my fucking box in, unless there is a setting that I'm missing somewhere?
Anyway, it's waaaaaaay better than fifa 09, will be getting pes 2009 tomorrow.

R1+R2 = supercancel so you can make your player run away from the ball at any time.

If you ran away from the ball by default then it'd be far more annoying 
Supercancel is good for winning long balls (strong attackers can use it to stop defenders getting the ball, while turning past them and getting through on goal for instance) Also it can be good for lining up the perfect shot on a loose ball.
There's actually quite a few lesser known controls that are useful, check out the manual if you haven't already

What about the passback rule? There's been a couple of occasions where the computer's team (in this case, I'm Man U and play a long through ball that the Liverpool defender taps back to the goalie) has blatantly passed back and the keeper has picked it up - i mean - pardon?

It's probably because Liverpool are utter scum. Although seriously there are a few tiny tinkers like that, i've never noticed pass backs myself, but handballs arent in the game and they happen quite a lot. Most annoying thing is ref giving offside when it's just unnecessary.
