In my room at uni, my computer is on a private network and has a private IP address. To access any website outside my uni I need to use a proxy server. Stuff like MSN, IRC and, of course, daoc, doesn't work....is there any way to get around this? I know (or I think I know) daoc isn't blocked by the uni firewall as I am able to play from my room using a proper IP.

As with all these other threads asking the same - talk to your IT team, any attempt to bypass security or equipment will almost certainly get you one hell of a slapped wrist.

In order to play DAOC on your computer - you need the IP traffic from the DAOC servers to reach your PC, this is generaly done with either a public IP address (this aint gona happen) or routing of traffic (very unlikely they will do this) or NAT (network address translation) being active on the network.

Either way - youll have to talk to the IT team

There is probably a reason they only allowed certain types of traffic on their net. :)

But what Tears said, if you want to make sure, better ask the IT-Team.
