Found this game Prime Battle For Dominus

Reminds me of DAOC but with robots:
Three realms with open rvr, possible frontier style with bases.
Classes that are not mirrored

Very interesting, gonna keep an eye on this.

I was watching the developer Q&A video from the site (linked above) and they talked about how they liked a lot of elements of MMOs that DAOC happened to also have and subsequent MMOs seem to have shunned instead of featuring (player crafted stuff is the best, exploration (not that there was much reward for that except fun-factor in DAOC, ofc) for example).

They've also appointed DAOC's old community rep. Funnily enough I was listening to the podcast on Massively (I've had a boring week with no work, give me a break) and they said she might have been going to work for Massively, but got a better offer from someone else... er... this would be who.

Didn't see much about robots tho (only skimmed through briefly).

Looked more like genetically enhanced something or other.

Just watched a video by Warren Weems the people making it played DAOC and they arent funded by cunts like EA / Activision so they have mountains of freedom.... DAOC 2 perhaps? closest thing we'll get probably.

Pitchblack Games is part of a bigger company that has nothing to do with games.. so while they aren't strictly independent, they do have somewhat freedom to implement what they want.

Anyway.. heaps of DAoC people following it.. and some of the devs know DAoC pretty well.. but.. they are trying to make their own 3 faction PvP oriented game (PvP comes first with them).. so if you expect DAoC2, it's not going to please you.

When they launch, it will also be rough around the edges.. they have stated that a few times already... so if you expect RIFT / WoW / GW2 polish.. look elsewhere.

All that said.. I'm following this one closely (am in beta), since it's about the only 3 faction PvP oriented MMO that's in development.

Basically.. next year there's 2 MMO's that might be worth checking out for ex-DAoC RvR'ers... GW2 and Prime Online.

Been watching this a little, sounds like good ideas, they have Sanya that used to be the old community rep from daoc. But while the ideas sound good, the game looks like it runs like shit, granted i've only seen a few videos...it just doesn't look like it plays well. 3 sides alone isn't what made daoc what it was...the team based combat was the main thing.

Prime Battle for Dominus plans website relaunch, new title

Sci-fi, MMO industry, PvP

Prime Battle for Dominus may be a mouthful to say, but after this weekend it will be no more. No, not because of the 2012 apocalypse or that it's entering the witness protection program, but because it's getting a new name. You're silly, stop assuming the worst!

In a brief tweet to the game's followers, the devs posted the following: "The guilds page on our site is down until Monday, when we relaunch our website. Not changing the game, just changing the name."

Considering that the official forums now say "Welcome to Prime Online!" we have a pretty good guess as to what that new name might be. That's right: World of PrimeCraft.

[Thanks Johannes for the tip!]

We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but sometimes it's just unavoidable. Sanya Weathers, Director of Community for Pitchblack Games' in-development sandbox title, Dominus, posted on the forums today to inform players that, effective immediately, Dominus is no more.

Weathers states that the team "simply cannot deliver the game [players] deserve with the resources [the studio has]." She goes on to apologize vehemently, adding that the forum is now read-only, though the game's Facebook page will remain open long enough for players to say their last goodbyes. Sanya signs off by thanking the players for proving that "there is a market for a game like [Dominus]." She concludes, "I will miss you all, and I know we'll meet again." Here's to hoping. Best of luck to the folks over at Pitchblack; we look forward to your next endeavor.

I feel bad for them, they had nice ideas but funding was always going to be a problem.
