Another Barrysworlder - who wishes to remain anonymous from shame at me asking this dopey question - has a 32speed Teac CD Rom that I wish to purchase from him, but neither of us have the faintest idea what its worth

Is there any kind soul out there who can give us an idea -- and of course let me know if these modems are any good -- please, go on side with me

Dabs have got the IDE down for 29+vat (26+v OEM); SCSI is 46+v OEM. I don't know what that'd be second hand.

They're certainly solid, though; I've had the SCSI version for 10-11 months with no probs at all -- and when it's not doing data, it's playing audio so I guess that's that's reasonably heavy use. I would happily recommend TEAC as a brand.

I think Teac CD Roms are generally reliable so its a good make. The prices RUP quoted seem about rite. What modems are you refereing to though?

OK, just a quick point:

You can do it three ways...

1) The friendly way

Discuss things over a pint of three, talk about the benefits of transferring the aforementioned optical device to yourself with the minimum of fuss.

Pros : everyone gets to remain buddies
Cons : liable to cost you a lot more

2) The Car Boot way

Have half a pint of shandy, don't discuss the weather and keep mentioning your finances being in a terrible state. Offer him a price which can be summarised thus :

Cost new - 1/3 - your age = £purchase offer

Pros : a cheaper all round deal
Cons : Your mate will probably feel insulted

3) The Cash Converters way

Bypass the pub completely, take the CDROM away from your friend, whistle loudly, refer to an Argos catalogue and then pronounce it only worth a fiver. Bully him into selling for £4.00 and then immediately sell it on for a 500% markup.

Pros : you get loads a cash and a new CDROM
Cons : your mate never speaks to you again.

--------------------------------------------

The decision is yours!

As the 3rd member of the aforementioned drinkin group, I shall of course give my unbiased advice......

Use Favorites....uh no...oops wrong advice

I reckon a fair price would be about £20, as they are v good CD's, especially for *cough* *cough* making legitimate backups of all your favorite games

Oh well see you both down the pub -- you coming tomorrow (wednesday) PaulB and Wildwood -- I think the discuss over many pints sounds good to me
