Preview Servers, Game.Net servers with players on.

Had a really good game last night on a game.net server that was actually fairly full. There are two of them one for Desert Combat and one for standard BF1942, and for those who haven't seen previous posts about it, it works like this, (or should do) :-

The preview servers are outside the normal subscribers system, so they can be 'seen' by the normal server browsers like ASE, Gamespy, and the in-game browsers. If you are a subscriber you should always be able to join, (unless it is already full with other subscribers) because whenever the server runs out of free slots, the last non subscriber to join will get kicked, ensuring that there is always space. So log in before playing to avoid getting kicked, or if you are not a subbie, take a chance and experience the fantastic servers, at the risk of getting booted, and realise that subbing is finally going to be worth it.

This is the type of system we have been crying out for, so lets make proper use of it, and add the servers below to your favourites. The other servers are remaining within the system for exclusively subscriber use, so hopefully these preview ones will get the subbies rolling in and we can start using them lots more.

See you there then.

Agreed.

I had some very very good games last night on the BF1942 server, mucho enjoyable - and its good to see the servers being full :)

Like you said Gumbo, this is certainly the way forward, and will hopefully get people subbing very soon.

This is (sort of) how its going to work - see Trebz' comments in the general forum for details. Its in test on CS and it will be rolled out to other games, barring disasters, over time. You should be aware however, that at the moment, BF doesn't have the necessary code to support this, but we're on the blower to EA/Dice about it daily because we don't think it would be too difficult to implement. So watch this space and we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, enjoy the servers but be aware that the cool stuff is yet to come.

aha! That would explain why I couldnt connect on the DC server a moment ago :D

Hope EA / DICE give you more help than they do the modding community ;)

Also, if while you're on the phone, you could mention to them about the SDK........ :)
