Prevent Flight

My Spearo is almost rr5, after a ra respec he has:-

FAII / IP
Purge
Det III

I have 13 remaning points. What would you spend them on?
Before respec I had aug dex2, AoM, toughness, tireless, Mparry,Mpain etc.

Is Prevent Flight an option? I like the idea of taking it now then getting AoM/toughness/aug dex 2 etc on the way to rr6. Can someone tell me how prevent flight works in more detail? Someone said today it would be a bad choice for a spearo because the snare proc was affected by weapon speed...?

Have considered Avoid Pain, but it would take me 6 more rr's to get lvl2 and thats too far away for me to wait for.

Prevent flight is a 35% chance to proc a 50% snare on enemies running away from you. If they stand still it will not proc

The snare lasts for 10seconds and has no immune timer hence it is chainable.

It does not require you to style to fire either - you can be hitting away unstyled, and so long as the enemy is running from you, there will be a chance of it firing.

Thanks kobold for the sensible advice, and Storm for the detailed explanation.

From a personal point of view I regard pf as a extremely useful ra for all hib tanks in general as it means mid support classes have much harder time getting away from you.

Having the enemy snared also makes it easier to slam/annihilate them before they run out of range.

PF > All other tank RA's imo

Nothing more annoying when tryin to slam someone and they keep running just out of your range for a second, making you hit unstyled as they were out of range when the slam should have happened (happens alot when things are laggy, ie. most of the times in larger battles).

Also you get the added bonus of slowing down other realms tanks when they are chasing your support classes, especially if they have been slammed once and are now immune from any more stuns.

PF can be the difference from winning a fight or losing it.

Prevent Flight is one of THE most uber RAs available.
if you are a tank and planning to do regular group rvr, you cannot miss out on this ability.
it simply kicks ass and is a lifesaver.

Also beleive the chance for PF snare to proc scales with weapon speed, the advantage BM's have is that the chance to proc applies to either weapon.
It's a great RA, anyone who has had it inflicted on them probably feels this more than the one using it, it's annoying, hard to do anything except turn around and try to kill the person behind you.

1 tank with PF can, with sprint at least, snare 2-3 tanks, I've done it pretty easy when keeping tanks of my healers/mages :)
Charge helps here too, catch up with tank on bard, PF, bard keeps playing end, mezzes, heals whatever, it's wubbly :)

Really have to pull back the camera a bit so you can see who is moving where and to whom, then just change target, be nice when and if they give a message saying that your target is snared because otherwise it's hard to keep track at times.

exactly,

lots of other important RAs that comed before. When you have all those at rr7-8 you can get stuff like PF, trip, grapple etc

pf is damn good RA, when barding, if facing the few enemies out there with PF i just cant help myself, if they dont have it, even if its mid sprinting whores, i can ;>

actually with all mids sprinting all the time its very handy, as champ snare+anni works sumtimes, but if enemy has pbt, purges anni, or gets healed = game over, since champ snare breaks on hit etc etc Assisting sum1 who has pf = teh pwn. (ie stormriderx)

Ok well we could have a look at them in more detail, and see if they are really needed:-

augcon / toughness - dont need tbh. 4/5 battles I am the only one standing and still have moose and IP up, the fractional increase in hps doesnt seem to have any effect on my game.

AoM - Essential, and something I could 'gimp' myself by not taking, it would be my first purchace in rr5.

Master of Parry II / Master of Pain II - both nice ra's that im sure I would miss, but together with AugDex 2 cost almost as much as PF. Master of Parry seems an essential for a spearo cause of the after parry chains, but even with 39+ 14 + MpII I parry once in a blue moon in rvr. Cant argue with Master of Pain II I guess, except it rarely seemd to turn a battle for me.

My conclusion after having tried the aug dex -> pain/parry route was that it really had minimal impact on the result of fg vs fg flights and im hoping that PF will. I am a spearo so dont have anni for back stunn, and great though it is slam doenst always do the job for all the reasons about fleeing middies healers etc other people list above.
